NB 1080s

Postby abhainn » Thu Jul 14, 2011 8:46 pm

I think they changed my shoe

I've heard conflicting opinions on this. The sales person at the store I bought them from said they weren't different, but some reviews I've read have said different. I've worn the 1080s once and wasn't impressed. Actually my left heal was not impressed at all for the first 20minutes.

If I could find a couple pairs of my wonderful perfect absolutely beautiful 1064s I would snap them up.

yeah, tried out the 1080's and they just felt clunky and awkward.

Since the 1064's were discontinued, I've been using the Saucony Progrid Ride 3's. Not bad, but I'm not totally in love with them either.

I've been trying to decide whether to grab another pair of the Ride3's (they're newly discontinued, discounted to $89, less with my clinic instructor discount), or to get another assessment done and possibly try some new shoes. We'll see...

I wore the Saucony Progrid Triumphs before the NB. Considering going back to them now that I know I can get them in a wide from Road Runner. But it's my fervent wish that I could get used to the 1080s so I don't have to go to the hassle of trying new shoes. This is not what I need coming back from injury. And I may very well write a strongly worded letter to NB explaining just exactly how much they truly suck for having changed my shoe. B@stards

Has anyone tired the NB725s? They're a trail shoe but they have the same tread pattern as the 1064s and are built on the same last. I wonder if they might be a good alternative. Not that I think just because the tread is the same makes them the same shoe, just curious. Of course the NB store in Victoria doesn't have them in my size

Interesting. I like the 1080s much better than the 1064s. I find the upper fits snugger/is more supple and there is more forefoot cushioning. But these things don't work for everyone.

I also found the 1080's clunky feeling so I picked up some 890's instead. They feel fantastic. I have only done a couple of short runs in them so far, nothing more then 10k, but I really like them. I'm trying to decide if I want to make these my new shoes of choice while training for a fall marathon.

April: Mundy Pond 5k 22:39 (new PB)
May: New job on a new continent so who knows.
June: Mizuno 10 Miler Rio de Janeiro 1:23:36.
July: Rio de Janeiro Marathon 1:48:30 (new PB).

Another example of to each their own, I didn't like the 890 :)

When I had put them on for the first time I noticed that the left foot especially was narrower feeling. I have a wide foot. A narrower fit when I'm already in a 2E is not what I'm looking for. I like that there's still good room in the toe box. The cushioning was fine, can't really say if it was more cushiony or not, but the heel cup was too tight which is unusual for me since I tend to have narrow heels. It's also entirely possible though that the heel was bothering me because of the PF which tends to make the outer edges of my heel more sensitive.

I might try the 890s, though I'm sure with my luck the store won't have them in my size either.

The toe-box on the 890 is both narrow and shallow. A customer who is a New Balance fan made the same comment last evening.

It's official today. The 1080s are going back. I've worn them 3 times now. The first I was distracted by other things so can't really comment on how they were on the run but during the warm up walk they bothered my feet quite a bit. Second run, didn't really notice during the warm up or run but after wards the outside back half of my left foot felt like there had been something pressing on it and it was quite sore. It also took my feet and knee more than 24 hours to recover. This morning on the treadmill I felt like the outside edge of the left shoe was built up, almost like a motion control shoe. I tend to walk/run on the outside of my feet so anytime there's something preventing that I definitely feel it. There was so much pressure that I experienced a bit of numbness and decided that even though I had 4k on the schedule 3 was enough for today in these crappy shoes. Now my foot is sore. So I'll be spending a goodly amount of time at the running store on Saturday trying to find a replacement

NB 1080s

I ordered my 1080's yesterday and should get them today. I get alot of heal wear on the outsides so I'm very curious if I'll like these shoes. I've only ever used New Balance, I hope I like them.

Edit: it's mcshame.

I got the new shoes! They look so different! Tried them on, they feel good. Haven't run with them yet, will do tomorrow. I believe I'm a heel striker due to the wear evidence on my shoes, so I'll let you know what I think. Did I mention they look really cool? Red...

They look pretty fast to me. If they didn't have that red on them, they would look slow and boring. I'm a big believer in the the psychological affect that the colour of your shoes has on your speed.

Red for...Zoom Zoom...

I also got a red Brooks tech top, red is my running colour. I couldn't get my shoe size in red for a couple of years, so this is a good sign.

NB 1080s

Did a short 4k with them this morning. The toes box felt fine (D width) and the heel support was good. Really, I have nothing much to say that is different from the 1064. No new pressure points, they felt comfortable. My orthodics were inside, and they tend to raise my heal, the right foot felt a little high but not the shoes doing. Basically, a thumbs up, I'll run with them tomorrow a little longer and if all is good, I will order a 2nd pair when I'm in Seattle.

Bump:

Any updates / new thoughts on these shoes? 1080v2? (WTH - just bring back the 1060 series already!!!)

I had switched to the Saucony Progrid Triumph 8s last year so of course Saucony immediately changed the shoe in the 9s dropping the heel and taking out some of the forefoot cushioning  Finally injury free for the last 4 months and now in need of new shoes. Not sure what I should do.

I don't like the v2. It just doesn't fit my foot comfortably. Now, with that said, I didn't like the 880, but the new 880v2 I love!

So I went in to a local running store and tried on the Saucony Progrid Triumph 9s. The sales guy was originally going to put me in a bit of a motion control shoe but I said I wants to stick with my neutrals which sent him off on a bit of a rant about what is actually a neutral shoe? I was a bit confused by this but let it slide because I just wanted to try on a shoe, no buying. He then measured my feet and brought out the 9a in a 1/2 size smaller and regular width (I normally wear a wide). The shoe fit well, though I would get it in a wide if I actually decided to buy, but I think I could feel the 2mm drop in heel height from the 8s. Is that weird? Oh, the sales guy also went off on how much the heel drop has been touted of late.

Not weird. I noticed there is less heel in the shoe. The width was what I couldn't get to work in the shoe. The B width was just a tad too snug but I was swimming in the D. Normally I wear a D.
