Garmin ANT stick help... again

Postby Jwolf » Tue Apr 23, 2013 6:24 pm

I got a new Garmin watch yesterday (the 910xt) and when I first set it up to pair with the ANT stick on the computer it worked fine. Today when I went to upload data again, the computer cannot recognize the ANT stick. (I think the computer restarted at some point with the ANT stick plugged in; this hasn't been a problem in the past.) Usually the computer recognizes the device upon plugging it in and goes and gets the drivers, etc. (but this had already been done yesterday). Could the device be corrupted?

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the ANT software and driver just to see if that helped, but now that's not even working-- I open the .exe file it gets hung up before finishing the install. I was also a bit worried since my antivirus claimed it detected malware on one of Garmin's pages.

HELP!! I would go back to MEC to get the ANT stick replaced, but now I'm having a software problem too.

If you haven't already tried it, unplug the Ant stick and plug it into a different USB port. Sometimes a different port will work.

After uninstalling ANT agent, reboot the PC before trying to reinstall it.

This is what I downloaded recently:

http://www8.garmin.com/software/Communi ... in_404.exe
http://www.garmin.com/software/ANTAgent_234.exe

FYI, I leave my ANT stick in the USB port all the time, through reboots, and I have never had that problem.

I had an issue with my 310xt not communicating with my computer.

I ended up:

- unistalling Garmin Ant Agent
- unistalling Garmin Communicator Plugin
- unplugging the Ant stick
- reboot
- reinstall both programs, replugging in the Ant stick when prompted
- repaired with my 310xt and it worked fine after that

Yeah, I've done all that in the past and it's worked before but not this time. :? but....what is the problem if I can't even reinstall the software now? It just gets hung up.

Garmin ANT stick help... again

Postby Jwolf » Tue Apr 23, 2013 11:31 pm

I've tried there to but just gotten all the same tips. I thought RunningMania people might have some hidden tips. ;)

I'm starting over from scratch again. If this doesn't work I'm going back to MEC to get a new ANT stick. If that doesn't work I'm going to contact Garmin directly. These things really shouldn't be so difficult.

The suggestion in the first post (hard reset) on page three worked for me now:

https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?21899-310xt-ANT-agent-doesn-t-transfer-data-automatically/page3

The unit must be turned off. Press and hold the LAP/RESET button then press and release the POWER button to turn the unit on. Now press and hold the ENTER and MODE buttons while continuing to hold the LAP/RESET button. Release the LAP/RESET button and the unit will reboot (it will look like it turns off). Wait a couple of seconds and then release the ENTER and MODE buttons. The unit will boot up again with a clear non-vol.

Wow....
It actually worked this time. I had to go and remove any trace of Garmin software from my computer first, not just the programs it was looking at. Seems that there was some cross-communication.

So essentially the steps that Eme posted above worked, but I had to go ALL the way back to the start.
I hope it keeps working now...

Thanks for the help and hand-holding. ;)

eta: Eme I just saw your post. My problem turned out NOT to be the pairing... in fact somehow the stick still knew to pair to the device. I will keep that tip in mind if it stops pairing in the future.

WHY are these things so buggy????

Exact same problem with my 310XT I haven't done a hard reset of my watch yet but apparently I have to do that before re-installing the ANT stuff.

Hmm...I actually forgot that part and it still worked. These things are so temperamental.
