where's the best place (in each or either city) for someone to go who needs knowledgeable shoe advice? He doesn't know what he needs and is looking for the right running shoe. :)

City Park Runners in Winnipeg on Portage Avenue (across from Assiniboine Park).

Stride Ahead in Grant Park Shopping Centre is good as well.

Both are good choices. Eric at City Park is good at fittings and he has a treadmill in the store. So, City Park would be my preference out of the two.

This is why I put it first. I love this store, the staff and the owners (great service all around).

Stride Ahead has a good reputation, so I didn't want to leave them out as I never shop there since City Park is close to my house.

Almost every store has some people who really know what they're doing and some who don't, so there's a bit of luck involved, but in Edmonton I think the best odds would be at Fast Trax. My second choice would be the Tech Shop.
