(putting it on my christmas list)

Can I ask a dumb question:

GPS City has the 310XT for $250, the 310XT with HRM for $199

http://www.gpscity.com/search/q=forerun ... isport+gps

Why would someone pay more for the one without the HRM? It doesn't really matter because I'd still buy it from Amazon but it concerns me that there's something I'm missing.

Weird...although I have seen that happen in the past, and if I'm not mistaken it was GPSCity. I'm guessing its because they sell more without the HRM so they're clearing stock. But really it makes no economic sense.

Thanks - that makes a ton of sense. I was worried there was some reason the one with HRM was inferior.

I had seen something similar a year or so ago, and the cheaper one was actually refurbished -- so you may want to check into that before you order!

I got one from GPSCity a couple of weeks ago for $179 with hrm. It was quite new in box and works fine. It was on sale and the bare one was not. I do not know why. Not a refurb.

This blackbird's mute gonna sing again

And all you drunkards crawl out
Come into the light of one fine day

I haven't read the directions, but I can't figure out how to turn on the beep for 5 and 1s. I have those entered into the workout but I don't know how to get it to beep.

Or how do you get it to beep every 5 mins. I set a time alert but I don't hear anything.

Does the watch make any sound at all? Like when you turn it on?

Also- do you feel the vibration on the alerts and just not the sound?

On my 910xt you have to go to "Settings", "System" --> "Tones and Vibration" to set the watch to beep.

I have vibration turned off. I beeps when I push any button.

Then you probably have to change the settings as I described above. You can choose whether you want tone or vibration or both on the alerts. They are probably both set to "off".

I was reading the garmin instructions online. It looks like you have to press start from the workout page to get it to start. Which means you should also plan to have that work at the beginning of the workout. I have the tone on but couldn't figure out how to get 5 and 1s. I guess you also have to enter the number of intervals, which bugs me since I don't know how many.

Oh, I see what mean now. You've set the alerts but it's not actually doing the workout when you start it? Yes, you do have to press start.... but there's another way.

You can do it two ways on the 910xt, either as an "interval workout" where you have to set the number of repeats, or you can just set run/walk alerts (where it goes indefinitely). I'm not sure if the 310xt has the latter option. If you only have the first option, just set it for more repeats than you know you will do, like 100. That gives you 10 hours-- well, maybe you need more than that sometimes.

oh good, you did the math. I think it had 91 repeats. my brain could not fathom how long that would be. I don't think it has the run walk option. So I start while I am at the interval page. I'll try again tomorrow.
