let me just say this - the Strava flyby feature is perhaps the most amazing thing I've ever seen.
Those of you I'm Facebook friends with - I just posted a video of a flyby from Sunday night when I got into an inadvertent race with a guy who turned out to be on Strava as well.

yeah it's cool! someone in my running club posted one of a whole bunch of us doing the race last weekend... so we could see the faster and slower members on the whole course. it was very fun.

I'm in. I'll have to remember to regularly sync my watch.

If you have an Android phone you can download the Ant+ app to synch your Garmin data and upload to Strave (and Garmin Connect) automatically. eme turned me on to this and it's been life changing! No more fiddling with that stupid little ANT+ stick, and having to boot up my laptop to download data.

Strava can also be set up to automatically sync with Garmin connect.

I have a Strava question.
I use the iPhone app.
When I'm setting out on a workout, how do I set the kind of workout before I start? In my app it defaults to "run", but most of my workouts are either a walk (I walk at least an hour a night with the dog) or a bike ride. I end up having to go into my profile and correct them later. The bike rides are worst because they get flagged for being ridiculous (70 km @ 28 km/h) and I get a bunch of kudos and feel stupid before I change it. But I also feel silly having a bunch of 10:30/km pace runs in my feed.

I assume you have the most recent version of the Strava iPhone app-- it looks like there is only an option for "run" or "bike". You click on the shoe in the top left corner and it says "select a sport" but the only choices are the shoe or the bike-- and the shoe always says "run" until you change it later.

I don't have the shoe in the top left corner.

Maybe you don't have the most recent version of the app? Mine looks like this:
Eta: that's the screen when you're starting a workout. The most recent update to the app was Aug 17 but that interface came with a previous update back in July some time.
Unfortunately it doesn't help if you are tracking a dog walk which will still look like a "run" of 10:30/km before you change it.

I thought I was using the most recent app (seeing as I got my new phone YESTERDAY) but apparently I wasn't. App is reinstalled and now I have a foot.
