RCMP Training

Postby trixiee » Sat Jul 11, 2009 3:39 pm

Anyone have a training plan for the running portion of the RCMP Physical? I believe that the requirement is to run a mile and a half in 12 minutes?

I've had a few members ask about the PARE for police testing, this is the link for the RCMP one

It is a 1.5 mile run - if the person is already a runner, get them to do shorter, speed workouts. Interval training, some hills (you know the drill! ;) ) Then again, if they are new to running, they need to build up a bit of a base to do a fast 1.5 miles.

They do the push/pull (PARE) stuff after the run, so they will need some endurance as well. Core strength is a must, especially for the push/pull portions of the test. Resistance training 2-3 times a week for a while will help this as well.

She has the strength (for sure), but is not a runner. A serious newbie. She was asking me for a soecific 10 -12 ( or whatever it takes) training program. She's also low tech. (No HR monitor or anything) Right now she's going to the gym, hitting the treadmill and going "all out" for a mile...

She also has that program, Tracy, but it way over her head, in terms of 85% of max, etc... I am going to lend her my old Garmin, so she'll at least have some idea of pacing...

I don't know that there is any "specific" 1.5 mile training program. I'll poke around a bit more into some of the stuff I have compiled for other clients though. I usually just get them into interval training on the TM to boost their speed a bit.

Will get back to you in case no-one else has a program.
