Pills...

Postby scottp » Tue Jan 20, 2009 6:00 pm

What supplements do you take?

Has it made a difference?

I just took multivitamins until I got joint pain and started Omega 3-6-9 and glucosomine. It worked.

Now adding vitamin D during the winter.

I take a prenatal multivitamin and try to eat well. I've never been a big fan of supplements. There's so much in food that we don't know about, and since you can get so much variety year round, that's my preference.

I take Palafer (iron fumerate) for anemia, vitamin C, vitamin D2, a multivitamin, B100 complex.

The iron is really helping the anemia I got hit with this autumn. My energy level has really picked up after starting that. The vitamin C and vitamin D2 I always take during the winter. The multivitamin and the B100 I've been taking for years.

I'm looking into glucosomine - and I know not all supplements are created equal - so what brand name would those who use it recommend??

Me too. I'd also like to know from those who are taking it, do you feel it made any difference in how your joints feel? And did you ask your doctor or did you do some research on your own and then started taking it?
A few times in the past years I've thought of taking it when I was feeling tired at the end of the season, but then decided no.

I just started taking Omega-3 caps but the bottle just says 'take one or more' and doesn't specify an amount. Anyone know what the suggested daily intake would be? I have tried google but didn't have much success - perhaps my google skills are lacking.

Absolutely. I've been taking it for years, only because I'm convinced it works. Even before I was a runner, my knees would give me serious problems hiking etc. when I went off of it for a while. It takes up to a month to kick in, but half that if you quit using it to feel the change. I'm not fussy as to brand, I've had them all. I just researched it myself; I've only been to my doctor once in 15 years, a physical before my first marathon.

One fine day
This blackbird's mute gonna sing again
One fine day

So all you sinners come out
And all you drunkards crawl out
Come into the light of one fine day

I take 3 Fish Oil Caps daily, 3 (1500 iu) Glucosamine Sulphate daily, 1 (1000 iu) Vitamin D and 2 (1000mg) Vitamin C

I did my own research and I'm not picky about brand.

I took 3 of the Omega and 3 Glucosomine a day for a couple of months. I then cut back to 2 of each a day (I'm cheap). It took about a month for it to show results.

I recall once reading that glucosamine should be cycled. I take it semi-regularly (when I remember to). I find it helps.

When I remember to, I also take a female specifc multi, E, C and sometimes, cold FX for preventative (when everyone starts getting sick around me).

Thanks for the feedback. I've been thinking about glucosamine, I might try it as my mileage ramps up.
