My bad luck continues

Postby Kelodie » Sun Mar 01, 2009 12:15 pm

So, things were really starting to look up. My hip was finally realigned and I could start planning on running, swimming and biking again.

Then, I slipped in the stairs and hit my coccyx real hard. Luckily, it didn't break, but it is badly bruised.

I passed out, but in a seizure-type of way and I wasn't sure if I had hit my head and I kept puking so I got an ambulance ride. The x-rays showed no fractures or dislocation of the SI joint ( man, that would hurt), but I'm drugged up and on resting orders for a week. I'm not sure when I'll be able to walk normally again, let alone run. Biking is probably very far in my future.

Anyway, I just wanted to complain a little, before I roll up my sleeves and fight the depressed stay I could let myself fall into. I guess I wrote this just to get a little sympathy and "poor Claudie" responses.

2009 probably won't be my year after all.

Oh Claudie. This is heartbreaking to read - more injuries suck.

Do we have to have JF build you a rubber house? Or at least one with no stairs? Or a lifetime supply of bubble wrap to protect yourself with?

Claudie take care of yourself.

My colleagues did that last Summer.

At least I know why I fell this time: since I broke my toe going down the stairs, I've been walking on my heels when I go down the stairs but this time, I just slipped and fell loudly on my bum.

Seriously?? Claudie!!! OMG these things can only happen to you.... you've got your share of stupid accidents and injuries.

I'm in shock! This really sucks, things were starting to go really well.... At least it's not broken... small consolation. Geez I think you do need the bubble wrap!!

Take care of yourself now!

Let me know if you want me to send you that book I'm finished.

padding the stairs will only make them more slippery! JF suggested I watch my step instead. i think he is onto something here... :?

What a pain in the @SS! (Sorry, someone had to say it!).

That sucks, Claudie! I'm so sorry to hear this. Thank goodness it isn't worse. Ya, I'd think cycling might be a little tricky for a while. But(t), you never know. It may heal fast.

You definitely have my sympathy.

Oh Claudie! :(

I know how that feels. I broke mine around this time in 2005. (I wasn't a runner then, but the injury really put a damper on my couch potato skills)

Take it easy. It will likely be 6 weeks or so before you start feeling brave enough to be active again.

I'm sending you some don't-get-a-cold vibes...because you don't realize until you bruise or break it, but your tailbone is connected to everything! It'll hurt to sneeze, cough and even laugh.

Well, it took me 6 weeks...but I broke mine...big time! And I wasn't a fit person then either. I'm sure you'll be back at things quickly...but you will feel some tenderness there when in certain positions and situations for a long while.

In the meantime...I hope you can sleep on your belly. I'm a back sleeper and even trying to flip from one hip to another (for side sleeping) was extremely painful for me.

Don't tell me - JF was in front of you on the stairs and saw a squirrel?

Seriously, get well soon, you've certainly had enough bad luck for 10 people the last little while.

aw crap Claudie - i am really sorry to hear this. ouch!
i have had coccyx troubles after Thing 2 was born and saw a physio who specialized in pelvic and tailbone stuff. she recommended a foam cushion with a u-shaped slot cut out [like a donut with a channel to the edge] so the tailbone would be protected when sitting. a hemorrhoid cushion may help too.

i also had a heating pad at work that i used while sitting.

what's the news on the passing out/seizure thing?

So sorry to hear about that. It's amazing the harm we can do with our own inattention. I can relate since on Friday night while doing some work downstairs on the floor, as I swung around to reach my hammer, I BASHED my knee ridiculously hard into the door jam. It was the most fierce agonizing pain I have ever experienced. It felt like my whole body was on fire, resulting in my trying to undress myself. Two days later, I'm still not 100% and had to skip my LSD today. Hopefully, we'll both recover quickly and get back out there soon.
