Ah those pains that come back....

Postby Marg » Mon Jan 25, 2010 7:11 pm

And the hip bone is connected to the ... ankle bone. :o

Seriously, my hip has gone totally retarded lately and while I have a great pain threshold, I do get worried when something is getting worse and worse and won't go away.
So I saw the chiro and when I expected him to dig into my hips, I was totally shocked when he grabbed my right ankle. I almost leapt off the table.

rewind to Nov 22 and Oct 5... two ankle sprains, right ankle, not a very pretty sight.

I rested a few days after Philly but just got back on the horse. :wall: Paying for it now. All the compensation in my ankle has traveled up to my hip and I am in a lot of distress.
So I'm not here to whine about it but just share that gentle reminder that you just never know if an injury is healed and if it was the cause of other collateral pain.
Lesson learned... slow return, much pampering on all my parts and hopefully I can maintain some level of fitness without overdoing it.

that's all...

I've been to see him a couple of times - he does work on my knees, but, definitely doesn't zero in like that!

I'll give him grief on Wednesday morning - for being able to figure you out, but, not me!

I had a pulled hip flexor on my left side result in tendinitis in my right foot before - amazing how our bodies compensate.

Ugh, that sucks. :( But on the plus side, at least you know what the cause of the hip pain is now!

That reminds me that I really should go back to physio for all my ailments. :?

Glad to hear that Duane is doing his magic on you. I can totally relate to this Marg. This sounds like what I suffered this summer...... remember that trail run at Camp Fortune? And last year, I started up too quickly after that break so this time I am coming back gradually to avoid a potential setback. It sucks that we have to learn these lessons! ;)

Opps.... just realized this isn't the daily thread...... I'll move this part to the right thread. Speaking of a gradual return.....

Thanks folks. Yep, it's amazing how these owies can manifest themselves.
I have to find some info on ankle strengthening to do. I was unpleasantly suprised at how tender my ankle still was when grabbed.

No problemos ...

Physiotherapy at the Scotiabank Place would be a nice option ... you can get ultrasound, and various rehab treatments ...

Here is a quick link with simple exercises ... you can replace towels, ropes, etc., with one of those exercise bands to add a bit of resistance ...

eta: also hear that a bottle of wine a day helps numb the pain away ...

what about the alphabet one? Where you trace the alphabet in the air with your big toe... it moves the ankle in various directions and is supposed to help strengthen (then when that gets easy, you add a tiny bit of weight like putting a towel on your foot).

Figuring out the true source of the problem is half the battle. That's great that it only took 30 seconds!! The rest is just sticking with the programme.
Let's hope Ryan is as quick to find my problem as Duane found yours....

I've spent 5 weeks with physio slowly figuring out my heel pain that has been going on for months. Every week we move a bit higher and we are now concentrating on my messed up shoulder and my twisty upper body. Go figure how all that manifests itself in my foot...but it seems to.

Here's to healing...and heeling! Five weeks in and I'm starting to see improvement but the time invested is pretty big. A good chunk of my day seems to be spent doing my rehab stretches and strength exercises, but it is worth it. At least it better be...

We'll both beat this Marg.
