Re: Priformis syndrome
Yep. My weak glutes and hamstrings were to blame. At first, I swear I could not squeeze my glutes, it was ridiculous.
Eventually, a sports MD told me my hips were misaligned and sent me to an osteo-physio and it helped a lot. I still have problems sometimes, but it's not as bad as it once was.

Yes. Off and on for the past 10 years!
Physio to help with acute pain, then clamshells, clamshells and more clamshells! Stretching too! (Pidgeon pose)

Re: Priformis syndrome
Yup...me too
Some days it's good, other days it screams at me...no rhyme or reason. But I stretch and that helps immensely.

Re: Priformis syndrome
So true, I looked it up and tried some exercises I found online. 17 km this morning without too too much pain. Cool.
Thanks for the replies.

Re: Priformis syndrome
I have been lucky in that running sometimes help make the pain go away. I assume it's because it warms up and muscles and forces me to stretch.

Re: Priformis syndrome
Glad to see you found some stretches. One exercise given to me by my physiotherapist involves a tennis ball. Get a tennis ball and lean up against a wall and roll your butt on it. Or sit on the ball, supporting a good chunk of your weight with your arms, and work the tightness out that way (more painful than rolling on the wall but this one really gets in there deep). Both of these exercises and super. Continued good luck!
Re: Priformis syndrome
just a second vote for pigeon pose from yoga.. there are a few seated postures also that are helpful for stretching this area, although i can't remember their names and my description would be laughable.. so i recommend a good yoga google search.

Re: Priformis syndrome
After 18 km today, was acting up a lot. Tried the tennis ball idea, worked really well and looks like something I'll have to continue.
