I've heard this before. How far in advance of the procedure would you take them?

I don't know for sure, but I think that they start it 48 hrs ahead? and for as few days after

Depends on the MD/dentist, the antibiotic used, etc.

Glad to hear that they've figured it out and you're being medicated to health. This reminds me of a few years ago when Mrs. Tater got pneumonia. They figure it was likely caused by having a rotten molar pulled. She ended up in ICU for over a week. Really happy it didn't get that far with you!

Hi all,

Sorry for the delayed response.... crazy busy and still much slower with everything.

I talked to my dentist and she really didn't know what to say as she had never heard of anything like this before. It is extremely uncommon. She asked me to check with the respirologist when I go back on Dec. 12th to see if he recommends that I am pre-medicated before dental appts. The dentist can prescribe whatever he recommends and it's usually 1 4-pill antibiotic dose taken 1 hour before the dental appt. My concern was making sure that it never happens again. I still have lung pain which seems just insane to me.

However, I have started the return to running program which is very slow with mostly walking and short 1 minute run intervals week 1, 2 minutes week 2. While it still hurts to breathe, I'm happy to be running even just a little bit.

Thanks so much everyone!
Mrs. Strider :)

Thanks for the update. It's good to read that you are feeling a tiny bit better and are able to do a tiny bit of running. It sounds to me that the infection you caught was a real fluke, but I can understand that you would want to do everything possible to prevent it happening again. Heal well!

She did 3x9&1's last weekend. Not fast, and still some pain, but she's happier...

Mild relapse but holding steady, keeping long runs at the 10-11km mark for now.

Thanks for the hugs! I really need and appreciate them. This nasty cough & cold is not helping at all - lung has been hurting. Hopefully, it's just a little setback. Fingers crossed. :O)

I think we can finally put this thread to bed. Remember for all injuries there is an end, and there is a silver lining

From Monday March 19th Daily Thread

MrsStrider wrote:Happy Monday Maniacs! WooHoo.... sensational weather we're having in Ottawa.... warm and sunny.

I feel like I'm BACK! Ran 18k yesterday with Strider at a 5:38/km pace and it felt great. My new inhaler with aerochamber is making a huge difference. I'm SO happy!

Have a great day all.

Just to note that this was one of the best runs that she had, not since last September, but I would say since NYC Marathon in Nov 2010.

Thanks honey!!! And, just to close the loop by sharing information that may help others:

I had a follow-up with the respirologist on March 9th where they re-did the breathing tests. The tests showed that my asthma has worsened and was not being well controlled. I have been put on a new inhaler called Zenhale and the specialist told me to use it with an aerochamber 2 puffs twice daily AND to take 2-4 puffs of ventolin before each run.

I have been following that regimen since and it is making a HUGE difference. HUGE! I'm not coughing and throat clearing constantly while running and it looks like my muscles might be appreciating getting much needed oxygen.
I'm just thrilled. Silver lining as Strider says.
