shredded: in which Jillan Michaels takes on the weak & whiny

Postby seuss » Tue May 18, 2010 3:54 pm

DAY 1:

even i am tired of hearing myself whine about how tired and sore i am. i have become one of those cranky old ladies who have other people fetch their pills for them. ick. although it is nice when your children grow large enough to be useful.

for now, i guess this is my new normal.

i have been planning to start the 30 Day Shred DVD by Jillian Michaels of Biggest Loser fame for some time now. planning. thinking about. contemplating. considering. yes - a lot of mental energy has gone into this. today was the day to convert the mental to the physical.

but first i had to clean the cat puke off the bedroom carpet. maybe that could count for a workout for today. my heart rate went up with all of the scrubbing. but no - better get at it. need to get that 22 minute workout in so i can have a good nap before i volunteer at the rain-or-shine track meet this afternoon.

maybe i should just preview it today - that way i could really focus on form when i do it tomorrow.

suck it up princess. get it done.

and so i do.

a two minute warm-up
three, six-minute circuits consisting of:
* 3 minutes of Strength
* 2 minutes of Cardio
* 1 minute of Abs work
a two minute cool down.

i used 3 pound weights - during the first circuit i was thinking i really should have grabbed the 5s. wasn't really thinking that by circuit 3.

man i suck at push-ups. even girl ones.

i modified the cardio - didn't think i could handle all the jumping jacks. debated between marching in place or doing the jacks on the mini trampoline. i went with the tramp and it worked fine.

so there it is. day 1.

and the rain-or-shine track meet is cancelled due to inclement weather. huh?

nap time.

yay!! partner!!

i hear you on the push-ups... it's almost comical how much i suck at them. :oops:

i have been using 2 different weights -- i find that i can lift more for the chest flys and rows than i can for the other exercises.

coincidentally, i had to clean cat puke off the bedroom carpet today, too.

good job, V. 8)

gack! only got through 2 of the 3 circuits tonight. after a long day shepherding kids at the Children's Festival [first time i have ever been there when it hasn't rained or been a mudpit]. figure i walked about 5 km. no nap this afternoon. then homework wrangling, followed by swimming lessons. i wouldn't let myself blow off the workout, so i didn't even sit down when i finally got home - got right to it.

i still suck at pushups. big surprise! but just didn't have it in me to finish it so quit part way through the third circuit.

maybe it's just my foreign DVD player, but i found it quite annoying that i couldn't just skip to the level 1 workout - i had to listen to all of the propaganda first. um, i heard it yesterday and also, i already bought the DVD.

only a little sore from yesterday - mostly shoulders/chest. not the obliques which i expected.

ooooh - what is this workout - sounds enticing, like something I could squeeze in while Miss M naps...

And bravo for kicking yourself in the butt and doing it!

It's not your DVD player. I had the same problem and found it just as annoying.

i downloaded it online :shifty: and it starts right when she's walking in for level 1. there's no intro. :think:

good job getting to it after a hectic day!! 8)

in addition to the push-ups, i find the reverse crunches really, really difficult. whatever muscle that is supposed to be working, i don't have....

With the reverse crunch I found them hard at first, but there was improvement. Not so with the push-ups. There was one day where I managed to do about 18-20 modified push-ups in a row without too much difficulty and I thought, Whoa! I've made a break through :D Then realized that I was doing them with my feet touching the floor. Lift feet up, lucky to do 5 without collapsing :roll:

no shredding today - 2 medical appointments and yet another new medication. my doc wasn't surprised to hear i was struggling with this given how low my heart rate is from medication. had an MRI tonight on my head and neck. don't know what to hope for really.

back at it tomorrow i hope.
