100 Days of Summer do over: solstice reboot

Postby seuss » Thu May 26, 2011 8:38 pm

the Penguin himself {John Bingham] has a summer challenge to commit to outdoor activity 100 total minutes per week from Sunday, May 29th through Monday, September 5, 2011.

http://100dayschallenge.org/

suggested activities are found on the Playlist.

The Things and i are going to adapt it and use it as a framework for summer activities. we will add some indoor stuff as well, but emphasize the 100 minutes outdoors as the main thing.

care to join us?

I'm in! The playlist is going on the front of the fridge and I'm going to get the kids to pick out some activities that we will do together.

I like the idea of being active for 100days. My pocket book certainly can't afford to do all those activities.
Joe would be impressed that "fly fishing" is included on the list.

100 Days of Summer: are you in?

I like the idea, but 100 minutes per week doesn't seem like enough! That's less than 15 minutes per day?

i figure if we aim for 15 minutes per day, it will be like the running experience - once you are out, you stay out. on the other hand, 15 minutes may be my limit.

I think the point is to get everyone in the family out and doing things other than playing video games... a start is a start.

I like this list.. a lot and I've printed it and put it on the fridge! I am going to share it with some of my clients that I have difficulty getting to do things outside of our sessions. And I may just try a few of them myself.

Day 1: feeding hummingbirds. doesn't sound like much, but climbing down and up the cliff to our neighbours' house was strenuous. 20 minutes.

Day 2: more hummingbirds. 20 minutes. total = 40 minutes

Day 2: neighbourhood walk + humming birds 50 minutes total = 90 minutes

We bought a badminton set this weekend, the girls are loving it. They spent a lot of Sunday outside. Even took youngest one to the park to play volleyball and throw a football around. Surprisingly oldest DD (the dancer girly girl), loves to play football. She even got a touchdown at school yesterday.

I love that you are getting into it :D

I've done my 100 minutes already, but walking to work takes me 40 minutes each way (so one day could be 80 minutes). I'm happy to be outside enjoying the weather :D

oops. like all great ventures, planning to have a plan doesn't usually result in the same success as when you actually have a plan and stick to it.

so just in time for the solstice, the 100 days of summer gets a reboot.

day -1:

off to the pool.

did everything right today.

made a reasonable plan and stuck to it. didn’t listen to the voice saying “just enjoy your coffee and socializing at the pool and swim another day” or the one saying “well maybe just a nice stretch in the hot tub.” or the one saying “you really don’t have the energy to do this today. maybe another day.” “or the one saying that the 100 days of summer reboot doesn’t start until tomorrow.” or the one saying...FFS shut up already!!!!

tossed an already well-packed swim bag into the car. no excuses like no goggles or suit went code peach. but perhaps 3 suits [one with labels still attached] was a bit of overkill.

coordinated the workout with family activity – hey i was going to be at the pool anyway right?

had a realistic idea of what lanes would be available during lesson time. took full advantage of the 17.5 m in the warm pool. yes - 17.5 m.

selected a reasonable workout goal [for someone who hadn’t been in the pool in 2 years]. definitely needed an easy win. how easy? embarrassingly easy - 150 m. yes – 150.

didn’t do anything stupid. only exceeded planned workout by a mere 16%. or a whopping 25m for those keeping track at home. yes – 25m.

eschewed the use of electronics – no accelerometer, no MP3, no heart-rate monitor. heck it would have taken more time to gear up than to actually swim.

used the word eschewed in a sentence. well, okay – a sentence fragment.

followed my meal plan. yes – made a plan. then followed it. no buttered toast for me. good thing strawberry shortcake was part of the plan. i am not an idiot.

summer, Summerland – bring it on!
