IMC'09

Postby Madame Bourette » Fri Jun 13, 2008 3:38 pm

I didn't speak to my coach about that. I want to see what will happen at IMFL'08 but

I know some of my teammates, hardcore triathletes who went to Kona have not raced IMC so far.

If we go back to Florida 70.3, I am sure we could all get a slot for IMC'09. If we do, what are the options IMC accomodations for those who would register in May?

IMC is calling me...

I know that Trev, Kerry and Jeff will be there. Who else?

That's correct...I'm IMC 08. NO PLANS for a repeat in 09. As far as accomodations - it can be a challenge. I went through a website and got a house for a week. It's pretty expensive at $3200 for the week but it's 5 bedrooms so there are a bunch of us sharing. It worked out to about $500 a person which is pretty good. Lots of locals rent out their house for IM week. I know a lot of people book their hotel rooms for the next year while they are there.

Do a google search for accomodations in the Okanagan. Lots of people have rental properties that aren't necessarily right in Penticton. Okanagan Falls, Oliver and Osoyoos are good areas to try too. A bit of a drive in, but not too far.

I've used this website several times in the past to find places to stay and have always had a good experience (in fact, I think in all cases the places exceeded our expectations).

this is the one I used. The homeowner is an IM competitor herself and has been very helpful.

A good option if you're not going to know if you're doing IMC 09 until May of next year - Apex Mountain Resort. They don't start to take reservations until about April of the current year. The credit for this location is Farmgirlinthecity - it's about a half-hour drive outside of Penticton, but really nice/spacious condos to stay at. The other consideration of course if getting a car rental for that period of time, which I have no clue as to how easy that is.

Apex Mountain Resort is about a half hour drive from Pentictan and doesn't start taking reservations until April. One bonus is that it's easy to access the bike course from the same road (Yellow Lake area maybe?)

There's loads of accommodation in the Penticton area.... if you know where to look and take your time.

I found a stand-alone log cabin in Kaledan for $100/night for this years race... and I booked last month. Sweet deal.

A good B&B site is:
http://bbcanada.com/

Summerland, Peachland, Naramata, Kaledan, OK Falls... plenty of outlying communities with accomodation. Oliver is a bit limited, and Osoyoos is a bit of a drive...

The city of Penticton has been cracking down on illegal rentals... so there's likely a bit less available than before.

Shouldn't be a problem to rent a car. I went last year to sign up and about two weeks before the race I booked flights in to Kelowna and rented a car for a few days. I stayed in Kelowna with friends which is about a 40min drive. It was fine for watching but for racing I wanted to be close to the course.

The other option is to suck up to people who have relatives there. I always stay with my mom :)

I will be there in 09 probably to cheer. I am definitely going this year to cheer!

(There may end up being less vacation rentals in Naramata, if the Planning Committee has anything to say about it. They are illegal, and Naramatians are trying to protect their community by encouraging year-round families and cracking down on vacation rentals)

Wow! Is that right? Do you get to keep the house after the race?! Wow! We are camping for the whole week this year, and it works out to something like 6 dollars each per night. Should be fun and the campsite is right on skaha lake.

There's also at Okanagan Lake (South) (in the BC Parks system). http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/bcparks/explor ... /okana_lk/

We were there a couple years ago just by chance on IMC weekend, and there were lots of racers staying there.

You reserve through www.discovercamping.ca , and it will be available three months in advance if they do it the same way next year.

Just wondering what an IronMan Du, would have for a first leg ?, I would think it would have to be something like a 15km run.
A beer mile? it's just 4 beers, and 4 laps of a track....I'm good at the first part.

The so-called ironman du's that andy has done have an initial run of only about 4K.

You'll never see official Ironman events having duathlons, though.
