Really???! Wow I had no idea. I wonder if that's why Craig Alexander and Chrissie Wellington have 47 pages of product endorsement ads in the current Triathlete Mag?

I'm wondering what the $$ amount for winning Kona actually totals up to over the year following a win.....Chrissie flew her parents in this year to watch, not a cheap trip from England, and she stated that prior to winning her first IM (Korea ?) she was basically "skint", and without that prize money couldn't have gone to Kona....and now she has bought (and paid cash for) a home in Boulder......where her new coach Cliff English (soon to be husband of Sam McGlone) is based.

It did make me shed a tear or two. The age groupers are amazing. Cheesy as it is it is still amazing what a person can do. My fav. the 73 yr old women man she looked great even at the finish she rocked it

I forgot to remind my buddy to record and digitize it, and he forgot to record. Anyone else have the technology to provide me with a digital copy?

Ugh... it was brutally cheesy.

The Muskoka 70.3 coverage was actually better, lower budget perhaps, but they actually covered what was going on in the race!

the usual cheese - love it! You know what you're going to get, and NBC delivers. I'm pretty sure they use the same voice over script every year!

But.. you gotta remember it's for the masses Jono.. the hard-core Triathlete followers would have watched on-line..

Ratings, ratings..

But fromage is good... watching the Kona coverage years ago is what turned the light bulb on for me :D

Me too! I missed the first half hour (stupid Christmas shopping  ) and didn't bother taping it. I would really appreciate a downloaded version!

I have it on my PVR but have no idea how I might get it off that and onto a DVD. If someone can tell me how to do that, I'll gladly make copies and send them out to whoever wants one.

The other option is check listings - I am sure that NBC runs the show twice.

I guess it's a good infomercial for the sport... I just wish we'd get something more like race coverage.

Maybe OLN will pick it up one year and cover it start to finish?? :)

I wonder how much time Christy really lost with the flat tire. They made it seem like forever, but I'm guessing it wasn't really that much.

She is one amazing athlete though!

17 hours worth? no way....

I'll be encouraging my spectators to spend the time I'm on te bike to drink in the beer gardens, have a big lunch, get a patio seat to watch the run but even someone devoted to the sport can't spectate for 17 hours!

It's purely cheesey coverage but IM has so many stories it's a little hard not to be over the top :)

That Navy Seal guy (also on cover page of Runners' World as one of the 2008 heroes) sure is a hottie

One question: what is with these long white socks - are these some kind of 'support stockings' ?

I actually thpought this year was not as cheesy as usual...noone crawling or rolling across the finish line, and they did mention the swim part and showed 1 or 2 minutes of it

I really think that Ironman triathletes are the greatest athletes in the world, yet from an outsider viewpoint, Ironman looks like the most horrible experience one can have in this human body...
