Re: A good speed bike training book
I like The Cyclist Training Bible, by Joe Friel ...
http://www.chapters.indigo.ca/books/The-Cyclists-Training-Bible-Joe-Friel/9781934030202-item.html?cookieCheck=1
If you are serious about road racing, then I would suggest that you consider joining a local Bike Team (most LBS have a training group / team) and train with them ... they will usually have meetings, training sesstions, etc., and strategize on how to handle the next race and who will attack, and until who to launch to the finish line ... Remember that for Team Cycling, the Team comes first, and each team member has a role to achieving that goal ....

Re: A good speed bike training book
Cycling for road/team races and cycling for triathlon are two different sports. Some of the training protocols are the same, but there are a lot of differences, too.

And, Joe Friel also has a similar Training Bible for Triathletes ...

You probably don't want to call road racing speed bike racing.

Yeah, that sounds like something a buddy of mine does. Ah, no-- that's "sport bike racing."

You definitely do not want a book on road racing if you want to do triathlon.
As well, IMO, Joe Friel's books are very poor. (flame away)
Becoming a strong triathlon cyclist is actually not that complicated... but I have yet to read a book that addresses it properly.

I would assume that any training program desired by cyclists would also be desired by triathlets as well.

It's a common misconception, and the source of many misguided articles in triathlon magazines and online.
Road Racing has much different demands than the bike leg of a triathlon. Handling, accelerations, tactics, drafting, etc.
