Predict my IM Aus time

Just for fun; as anyone following my journal knows, I haven't really put in much more than a month's training for this IM.

The race is on this coming Sunday.

In the interest of full disclosure, I am going to try to finish, but if I'm not on the same lap as my friend (who has trained) when he is on his last run lap (of four) I'll probably take a DNF to cross the finish line with him.

If you're feeling really brave, and think it's applicable, predict a finish time - closest to actual gets a prize.

I'll play.
I'm going to say 14:23.
And the prize better be a trip to Australia or I'm changing my vote to DNF.

swim 1:22
t1 5 min
bike 6:20
t2 5 min
run 5:49 (and I say you will be stubborn enough to finish it regardless of where your friend is on the course)
13:41 +- 30 min - so 13:11 to 14:09

I am going to predict 14:51.

But I do think you should aim to finish what you started, especially since all of us are guessing your times.

Update;

Race day weather is going to be wet and potentially windy. The wind will be in our faces on the way out and following coming back on bike.

My friend is under-trained on the bike and expecting to ride about the same as I am - around 7h. His longest ride is only 125km - I reckon he's going to be slower than I am expecting to be and we may end up running together. He's a little injured too, with a calf strain. Running might be an issue for him.

I feel great.

My bike is all tuned up and has a shiny new rear tire. I have found some Vittoria Pit Stop and am now not worried about dealing with flats. I may buy some new running shoes for the race - it's a tradition.

I am impressed at the collective - majority - optimism expressed here on my finishing <15h.

My bib number is 967.

Susan, the prize includes an invitation to Australia ;)

We are heading up to race site today. It's a 5h drive, and it's wet.

Cool...there could be a bit of a Hoopla....La and I will be there. Just think Susan...a meeting of the Mark.AU fan club in September 2016...just a thought. :D

Sure hope your buddy can make it through the run. And sure hope my package gets there...I don't have tracking on it because it was going to be really expensive.

Starting to send awesome vibes (((Mark and Jim)))

You're a stubborn b@stard, so I don't see you with a DNF, regardless of where your friend is. The only x-factor will be if you and your friend are relatively close and decide to run together, you may have a longer than planned marathon so that you can finish together.

Race day is forecast to be 24C, cloudy, anything between 60-90% chance of rain and 15km/hr winds. I'll take that, especially if the rain stays away for the middle of the day while we're riding.

My bib is 967, my mate's is 1339.

We are planning to start later in the rolling start so I reckon I'll be in the water at something like 4:45pm EST Saturday - 6:45am Sunday, local.

Just thought I'd post here as well as his journal that Mark's bib # is 967.

I wonder if one of us oredicits bib 937's time correctly if we win the prize too.

Though not what he's capable of, pretty good for no training.

When Carla did IMWA a few years ago I remember getting up at 5AM Sunday morning to watch her cross the finish line. I like Mark and all, but I won't be doing that this time.

The Athlete Tracker is predicting a 7:30 bike split. He's through 57K on the bike. Next split is at 90K.

Made it to 10k on the run but cramping in my neck, back, calves, quads and hamstrings had me to a walk with no real expectation of improvement. It started raining and I got cold; I didn't want to walk for 6hrs to get a medal I really didn't care about.

I'm shattered; the swim was better than expected, the bike also, and I was able to run off the bike. However, there's a reason we train for six months for IM, and that's to build muscular endurance. I didn't have enough and although I'm satisfied that I could certainly have finished on my month's worth of training, it didn't matter enough for me to go through with it.

I'll put more in my journal latter, but for now I'm as wasted as I was when I finished my other IM's, and I need to lie down.

Rest up. Sorry that you didn't get a more positive ending to your race.
