Swimming

Postby La » Wed Jul 27, 2005 10:01 pm

Since this is a topic that comes up quite frequently, I thought I'd start this thread.

Here are some good resources on swimming:

www.totalimmersion.net (some articles, some video, mostly links to buy their books/videos, but from what I hear well worth the purchase)

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sportacademy/hi/s ... efault.stm (great little animated clips on each stroke as well as a breakdown of how to do them properly)

If you're looking for coaching in the Toronto area, this guy is expensive but teaches the Total Immersion method: http://www.npconsultants.com/oannesswims/

Hope that helps!

For the record (and to dispell any confusion), the short form of my username (ladechat) is La. So you can call me that (as my family does), but I also answer to Les and Lesley. Oh, and BG, which stands for Bond Girl, but only Bond himself is allowed to call me that (but he hasn't shown up here yet).

I sense confusion in the near future, I really do.

That's OK - he's the only one, so I doubt there'll be any confusion. Just as everyone else calls me La.

I am completely on with the Total Immersion method. I started taking TI back in April of this year. At that time, I could barely swim 25m, and did it without putting my face in the water at all. Breathing - that was a completely different story... along with the very high anxiety level that I had when I was in the water...

I am now a much more content & relaxed person in the water. I can swim a comfortable bi-lateral breath freestyle. Working on 400-500m distances now. I am fortunate enough to be blessed with a TI coach who was also my LTR and Triathlon Instructor through that "other place". She must feel sorry for me, as I pay a whopping $10.00 an hour for a private to semi-private (no more than 4 of us ever) lesson... Without that, I would not be in the water & would never have contemplated, nor trained for any sort of tri...

Next weekend will be the true test...! 8)

Hey, be careful around me, apparently I'm a chronically offended kind of person... ;)

Thanks for the link. I really need it. I can swim the distance but I will get better with technics. (and a lot of practice of course! )
