Where did that come from? anners's Angus Glen 10k
Where did that come from? anners's Angus Glen 10k
After a disappointing scotiabank halfM, my intention was to continue training hard and go for a 10k PB at Angus Glen. Unfortunately, the training that I did for scotia and a busy year of racing (by my standards) had taken its toll, and I spent much of October fighting illness and minor aches and pains. I think I ran a total of 80km in October. I started feeling pain in my right foot last week, and went to a physio for an assessment. Luckily, she didn't suspect a stress fracture, but told me to go to my family doctor for an x-ray just to be sure. I'm getting the x-ray next week. She didn't tell me *not* to race this weekend, but told me to not run until the race.
I've also been fighting a lingering cold, so I really didn't make my final decision to run until this morning. I felt okay, so I went. I noted how high my HR was while I was warming up, so I set my expectations low for this race. I set my virutal partner to a 6:00/km pace.
Something must of possessed me during the race. My splits:
5:11
5:11
5:22
6:01 (walked through the water station)
5:49
5:39
5:44 (these 3k were a gradual uphill)
5:24
5:13
4:46 ( no wonder I felt like I was going to puke)
Final result: 54:24 (chip)
10/34 in age group
59/314 in gender
134/482 overall
I am still in shock. And I haven't stopped smiling
That is a PB by 3min, 21sec and a 10k time that I have been chasing all year. In the 3 other 10k races that I ran, I never broke 59 min.
I guess that when the pressure is off, you can really surprise yourself with a great result
I saw an orange shirt during the race, who turned out to be robert. I chatted with him and his wife for a few minutes during lunch. She had just completed her first 10k
Tony and I recently bought a house in Markham and we're moving in January. Angus Glen could become my home course

Ann,
I am absolutely thrilled for you. I know you've had a few race demons this year but wow you smoked that course today.

WOW Ann! That's awesome! I KNEW you had that in you. Way to go! Congratulations on the new house too.
"Don’t let negativity rent space in your brain for free. That is how you become a badass…by excavating her from inside you. You don’t have to become someone else. You need to identify the effing awesome parts of you that are your tools to work with, and maximize those." -Lauren Fleshman
WHAT AN OUTSTANDING RACE AND REPORT! Way to go, Anners. I am not surprised at this awesome result, but I am extremely happy for you. Those are some nice splits, and you know you gave it your all (hence the pukey feeling).
Congrats on the house as well!

We're going to try this new thing called jogging. Or maybe it's yogging-with a silent "j". Apparently you just run for an extended period of time. It's supposed to be wild.
