Tritorun's very late IMC report
Tritorun's very late IMC report
Sorry everone for the very late race report but I have just come back to RM. Thanks to all who have sent me PM's to welcome me back
I went to IMC with the goal of going under 12 hrs I thought that it was posible as I had done Peterborough Half in 5:02:xx.
While out in Penticton I waivered back and forth wheather or not to wear a watch or garmin or not at all, I decided to go without and see what my body would do. I came out of the water and felt good ( did not see a clock) transistioned and went out on the bike. Felt great until just prior to special needs area and ran out of e-load and drank gatorade. my stomach bothered me a bit but I kept pushing. Finished the bike ( did not see a clock) took off on the run felt great for the first 10k then it hit me I had no energy and found I could not take in any liquid because of myt stomach. Walked off and on for 10k and decided I had to do something so I started eating grapes at the aid stations. Walked all of the up hills for the next 10k and kept eating grapes. About 30k as fast as it went I suddenly had lots of energy and ran a great last 12k. I never thought that I would reach my goal of 12 hrs due to all of the walking. When I crossed the line and looked up 11:29:51 I DID IT!!!!
swim 1:10:40 Bike 5:54:23 run 4:12:37
It was the slowest marathon of my life but it was the hardest fought as well.

Re: Tritorun's very late IMC report
Welcome back, Paul!
This sounds exactly like the experience I had at IMC in 2006 (except for the finishing in under 12 hours part ). Grapes, pretzels and Pepsi were my saving grace. I walked almost all of the first half of the marathon and somehow found the energy to run the second half, posting a 40-minute negative split!
Congrats on a great race!

Wow, that's a great result! And you walked about 10K? Wow, if you did another one I bet you would be close to 10 hours. The nutrition thing does seem like a real challenge.
