Delilah's 1st "on her feet" race! (photo report)

Postby Irongirl » Sun Jun 20, 2010 12:51 pm

Ironboy was volunteering at Emilie's Run, and we were going to cheer.....I realized that there was a 1km kids race - so, I had Ironboy register her!

We biked to the race (well, I biked, Delilah hung out in the bike-trailer!)

Once there - Delilah re-hydrated and fuelled up:

We watched Daddy volunteer for a bit:

Delilah proud of her race number:

Trying to escape before the race started!

And.....we're off!
Image

She kept stopping and bending down and saying "down".........
Image

We took a little short cut (Don't call us Jeans Marines!):

A true maniac stops to admire a pylon:

Race to the finish!

Enjoying her medal and post-race bagel:

EXHAUSTED!!

You may notice that there is no one behind her in the pictures.....check out her results:

We kept trying to catch Alice! (the girl that finished in front of her). Apparently we couldn't make up the 4 minute lead! ;)

I was the lucky one to give her the medal. We were all cheering at the finish line. Watching dad on his knees, arms held out waiting for her. Proud dad I am sure. And Super mom for running with her :) Marc from Zoom Photo got some wonderful shots. She's a cutie :)

Really?! ah man, you should have introduced yourself!! :)

I kept telling her that she'd get a medal "like Clarisse!" (her big sister had lots of medals) - it would get her going sometimes.....

So cute! I love the pictures. Also love that they officially timed these kids and it's on Sportstats. :)

P.S. Delilah- you might get Mama or Papa to take you to the track so that you can improve on your time for next year. ;) Then you won't be last.

Funny, so many of the little ones who finished near the end were to shy or afraid to get the medal. Handed it to the parent. D was just waiting for it.... Too cute :)

IG....have you considered the implications of what you are raising there? Yet one more person obcessed with running to the point of being a maniac? (or maybe the total opposite because she'll resent her parents...)

hmm....probably not - she was considered 2 for this race (they use date as of December 31st) - I'm guessing there were a couple of "almost 3's" in there that would have beat her (since, really, EVERYONE beat her!)

Well, by that definition they'd be considered 3. :)

It was so funny. She was meandering towards the finish line, (and nobody was left, so nobody to follow) with what was left of the crowds on either side and the announcer was saying things like:

"Here comes Delilah, she's not much of a sprinter, more of one of those ultra endurance atheletes"

So I crouch down just past the finish line and hold my arms out and call to her and she finally sees me and takes off running.

The crowd goes wild!

She comes to a complete stop, no doubt wondering why on earth everyone is yelling and clapping.

And of course when she stops, they stop, and everyone starts laughing.

Finally she walk across the mats and I pick her up, and everyone is happy, the race is finally over.
