OrleansRunner at the No Frills 10 Miler

Postby orleansrunner1962 » Wed Jul 21, 2010 8:33 pm

WOW, what a night....

This was my first time running a 10-mile event, so I had no idea how to pace myself....

My goal was 1:27:50 and I had come up with this by plannning 5:35 for the 1st third, 5:30 for the 2nd third and 5:25 for the final third.....

It was three loops -- after the first loop, I wanted to bail -- my tummy was upset, and I wanted to stop and go to the bathroom, then I said "SUCK IT UP, PRINCESS" and just kept running....

Here is what it looks like - I still ran in km's even though it was a 10-miler

1) 5:10 - Whoa -- too fast!!
2) 5:36 - settling down
3) 5:38
4) 5:35
5) 5:30
6) 5:21
7) 5:32
8) 5:26
9) 5:29
10) 5:31
11) 5:20
12) 5:18
13) 5:21
14) 5:22
15) 5:21
16) 5:15

Garmin says 16.18 km in 1:27:33 AVG PACE 5:25/km -- really happy with this -- I was aiming for 10 sec better than 1/2 marathon, and this is actually 15 sec better.... quite thrilled...

AND, I placed 1st in my AG..... :D :D

Really nice event -- small, but very friendly -- will do this one again for sure........

Great seeing you out there Sylvie, you definitely looked better as of the second out and back. When I saw you at the first out and back you didn't look too happy ;)

Congrats on a great run.

Was great seeing you too IB -- at the first out and back, all I could see was a whole bunch of runners IN FRONT of me, and I had not looked back, so I was convinced I was dead last  after the out and back, I could see that there were quite a few runners behind me as well, and I guess that gave my spirit the lift it needed to "kick into gear"... :D

Thanks for the encouragement along the route.....

Cheers

Just catching up on this now. Great race, Sylvie! Nice pacing and congrats on the age-group pacing.

15 sec/km faster than half-marathon pace is quite substantial, so I'd say your half-marathon pace will be faster soon. :)
