b_squared's 4th spring race - OTMH 5k - pg.2

Postby b_squared » Sun Mar 27, 2011 12:18 pm

My first race report in long time!
(quoted from my journal)

Many positives to come out of today's race for me. This definitely goes onto the list for next year.

Had a chance to meet several maniacs for the first time (Mark, HCcD, Purdy65, toobusy) along with Robbie-T, Doonst, casual runner, mid-packer and a few others from afar. Nice to see everyone.

Copps coliseum is one of the best race venues I've been to. Perfect for meeting and warming up when there are cold conditions. I even did much of my warmup on the concourse level.

Everything about the race was great. Ideal conditions and a good course. There was a modest northerly wind during the 2k out and a couple of small hills at 3.25 and 4.5 k on the way back. The hills took most of whatever finish I had, but good challenges at that point in the race. There were a ton of speedy high school and university runners that made for a exciting and fast race.

I ran exactly the way I'd hoped to, and at end knew I had done my best today. Nothing negative about this run; Best of all my suspect leg issues didn't surface at all and I didn't run tentatively.

Result was 20:27 which is about where I thought I'd be with the kind of training, or lack thereof, I've been able to do over the last 6 weeks. One minute slower than I'd liked to be but I think this is an honest reflection of my fitness now and I can use this as a guide to build on.
I was surprised that this was good for 3rd in my AG, but I was 2 min behind the guy who was 2nd : p

Splits from Garmin:
3:41
3:59
4:10
4:14
4:15

that's pretty damn good for a guy who's training has been all over the place and not a lot of speedwork either.

3:41 first km feels a little fast - think that caught up with you on the back half?

there is a 5k on april 30 at coronation park. it's the last 2.5k of the oakville 10k course. i'm sure you'd get under 20 min there.

Solid start to the racing season, Bryan. Now that you're vying for podium spots, you need to restate your time as a 19:87.

Richie-Rich stole the words right out of my mouth....that first km is killer.
Good to see a race report from you B....looking forward to a bunch more from you this summer, including more 'dirty' ones from the trails. :D

I was searching for results from you in the 30 km...didn't know you were running the 5 k, though I'll admit, I haven't been frequenting RM much lately.

Nice result!

well it likely did in one way or another, but that's the opening I wanted and when I saw the time on my watch I was happy about it :D

Black tights, yellow/mango tech-T over black longsleeves. I think I passed you at about 2.5 - 3k
