Just back from Perh and my first official 8K at the 2nd Annual Perth Kilt 8K run ... and, another World Record Breaking event, surpassing last year, based on the confirmed registrations ... Looking forward to the final results, when posted ... So, come on already, jgore ... are the results posted yet ??
Really enjoyed the event, got a really cool Tartan Kilt with the race registration, met up with Andrea (abird) around 3:30pm at the race kit pick-up by chance, and we toured the downtown Perth, in, say, about 2 minutes ... Sat around and chatted a bit, then a short little warmup before the festitives started ....
It was about 28-29C at the start, plus whatever humidex ... the course was not exactly flat, but did contain quite a bit of rollers ... first 2-3K or so was in around the city roads, then we headed on the the golf course, and ran along the path for about 3.5 - 4K before getting back on the roads and to the finish line ...
As for my race, held my 5K pace for about the first 3K then found myself at my 1/2 marathon tempo pace, holding it around 4:30mpk for the last 5K or so, and with about 150m or so, once we turned to the home stretch, there were couple of runners chatting together and, my garmin was hitt 34:30 or so, so I did my usual kick, and passed one of them about 5m from the finish line, in a time of 34:47 and 21st overall ...
When I looked at the results, I noticed that they had age groupings by 20 increments I was 22nd overall and 10th in my AG (40-59) ... So, opted to leave instead of sticking around for another 45-60 minutes before the awards ceremony was schedule to begin ... as I was pretty sure that I wasn't going to be eligible ... unless they decided to change the age group increments ...
So, quite happy with my performance, this being my second event over the past 36 hours and 3rd in 6 days ... ...

Re: HCcD's Perth 8K Kilt Run
According to the official results, my final kick, gave me the same time as one of those two runners ahead of me and one second on the other runner, at about 100m out ... but, gave me the tie-breaker in the placement ...

Nope ... she had a good 20-25m advantage with about 150-200m to the finish line, and I ended up catching her about 10m and finished about a second ahead of her ... As it turned out, she was the 2nd Female Overall, and was not pressured by any other femaile behind her, so wasn't too pressed to push it to the finish line ...

Good Race Andy, again - three in a eight days!
Funny thing, they presented awards the winners of each broad age group but then they ended up giving "awards" for each age. So, there were 135 age/gender winners.

Good job Andy, esp since you had done another race so soon before. You are running so well lately! I'm so happy to see it. I think sub 35 in a kilt is especially impressive.

Re: HCcD's Perth 8K Kilt Run
Woohoo .... We all set a World Record, unofficially, 'til verified ...
YOU DID IT!
Congradulations all participants of the 2011 Perth Kilt Run.
We unofficially beat our own record by 5 runners!! That's 1094 Kilted Runners in the sweltering heat of a July's sunny day!
That's no bull! Could you have ever imagined the shear number of runners? Let's see Perth Scotland be-e-e-at that!!
I wonder how many people lingered in that mist from the Fire Truck?
