RA's Dartmouth Double

Postby RA. » Mon Aug 01, 2011 8:49 am

Yesterday, I ran the MacPass Bridge Mile. Today was the 6 Miler at the Natal Day Road Race. Both in my neighbourhood. Yesterday was free, today was $15. Not bad.

MacPass Mile - My first ever mile race. No idea how to pace, just aiming to go out hard and hang on. A quote I read recently summed it up - go big or go home, and don't go home. I set my garmin for 400m splits: 1:47, 2:03, 1:48, 1:42. Total time 7:27 for a 4:37 pace. That was about a minute faster than I expected!

Today was the 6 miler. My legs were sore this morning. I had a bit too much wine, and a bit too little sleep going in. But the wine and tiredness didn't really hurt me. My legs were just tired from yesterday. Set the garmin for mile splits: 8:39, 8:44, 9:50, 9:47, 10:23, 9:41. Chip time 57:31. Meh. It's a course PB by about 2:15. Not unhappy. I learned that I can't race a mile and then expect to race a 6 miler the next day. :p

Next race is in three weeks. I hope to run a sub 57 10k.

Congratulations on both! That's a great time for the 1-mile race. And shows you have way more speed potential than you realize.

I was wondering how the mile race would affect your race today- not surprised about the fatigue.

Good luck on the 10k- I bet you'll be able to hold the pace of today's first miles.

Great racing! I agree that you do have more speed than you think and that sub 57 is in reach. enjoy the wine.

I love that you started off with the entry fees - free is wicked, and $15 is nothing to complain about 8)

So happy you had two excellent runs - even with today's meant the legs were a little tired. Looks to me like the sub-57 10K in a couple of weeks is very much doable :D

Ang, Ang, Ang!! You are SOOOOO much better than you think you are!! Sub 57 SHOULD be a walk in the park. I was so thrilled to see how well you did in the mile, and it's no wonder your legs were beat up for the 6 miler. And you STILL ran a course pb. I can't wait to hear how the 10K goes! Good job on the double. 8) And for beating that one person- Mwhahahaha.
