b_squared can't resist Bread and Honey
5k Bread and Honey Race 21:50
If you have a couple hours free on a Sunday morning, and one of your all time favorite races is on, and you ask: What would AirForceRunner do? Well you'd run the race of course!
Anyone following my journal will know I had an almost 8 month lay-off and only just started running again about a month ago. By rights, I had no business racing but the simple fact is I wanted to run a race; i like racing! 4th time at this event and it is one of my favorites, so I headed off to the venue, grabbed my bib, had a good warm-up, and joined the start corral. It is interesting toeing the line having no clue as to how to pace, knowing a PW is the only outcome, but the pre-race energy and vibe is contagious; my favorite part of the race.
The race itself was as hard as any I've ever run, I pushed as much as I could, heard the 'slow down' demons and told them to bugger off, so I was very satisfied with the effort. I am very happy with the result, as pleased as with any other, which was on the good side of what I thought might be the outcome. The result also reaffirmed how effective training can be - last year, with training, I was 2min 20sec faster. Something to aim for if I can truly get back at it.
For some reason my watch was set for 2km splits:
1-2km 4:18 pace;
3-4km 4:26 pace
5km 4:20 pace
The great thing about a well-organized, local, 5k is you can get a race done and be home before anyone else is out of bed!
Thanks for reading!
PS: Robbie-T, your nemesis from 2009 was there and looking fit - remember the guy who tried to sneak past you at the line and had Doonst in a tizzy for a week

Congrats on your run.
If you have to ask me why I Run, You probably wouldn't understand!
Re: b_squared can't resist Bread and Honey
Congratulations on a great comeback race. I would have liked to have done the Bread & Honey 15k today but thought I should wait a bit longer before racing again.

Very good Bryan, that's a fine effort. And here I was wondering about mentioning a local race for next weekend in your journal...
next up:
This broken wing will fly again
One fine day
This blackbird's mute gonna sing again
One fine day
So all you sinners come out
And all you drunkards crawl out
Come into the light of one fine day
This broken wing will fly again
One fine day
This blackbird's mute gonna sing again
One fine day
So all you sinners come out
And all you drunkards crawl out
Come into the light of one fine day

Nice!
It was a great day out there, everyone I went with Pb'ed. The weather was awesome. And the event was well organized. Will repeat next year for sure!

Jump on the 400 and come up to my race at Hardwood Hills next Saturday. Don't I still owe you a free entry from a race you missed last year or the year before?

Re: b_squared can't resist Bread and Honey
Y'know, I always thought the WWRTD (What would Robbie-T Do) line was so cool.
Now I see a rendition with my name in it...social responsibility dictates you do the opposite of WWAFRD. My running decisions are questionable at the best of times.
But racing regardless of conditioning, regardless of expected times, for the sole purpose running like hell, and simply because, hell, there's a race to be run....this I enthusiastically support.
Great to see you toeing the line again B! Now bang off that rust and start wowwing us again.

Don't you remember what your last race did to me ...two years on and still not right.

Pretty solid result for no training, 2 minutes is no biggie anyway really. I like that race too, I'll get that guy as long as he can leave his walker to run the race.
Hey you forgot to mention you got a age group award for that effort.
