5k Bread and Honey Race 21:50
If you have a couple hours free on a Sunday morning, and one of your all time favorite races is on, and you ask: What would AirForceRunner do? Well you'd run the race of course!
Anyone following my journal will know I had an almost 8 month lay-off and only just started running again about a month ago. By rights, I had no business racing but the simple fact is I wanted to run a race; i like racing! 4th time at this event and it is one of my favorites, so I headed off to the venue, grabbed my bib, had a good warm-up, and joined the start corral. It is interesting toeing the line having no clue as to how to pace, knowing a PW is the only outcome, but the pre-race energy and vibe is contagious; my favorite part of the race.
The race itself was as hard as any I've ever run, I pushed as much as I could, heard the 'slow down' demons and told them to bugger off, so I was very satisfied with the effort. I am very happy with the result, as pleased as with any other, which was on the good side of what I thought might be the outcome. The result also reaffirmed how effective training can be - last year, with training, I was 2min 20sec faster. Something to aim for if I can truly get back at it.
For some reason my watch was set for 2km splits:
1-2km 4:18 pace;
3-4km 4:26 pace
5km 4:20 pace
The great thing about a well-organized, local, 5k is you can get a race done and be home before anyone else is out of bed!
Thanks for reading!
PS: Robbie-T, your nemesis from 2009 was there and looking fit - remember the guy who tried to sneak past you at the line and had Doonst in a tizzy for a week
