Left St. John's at 11am, a seven hour drive, which would put me in 10 minutes late for registration. Made it. Dropped my kitbag in a friends car and went to watch the kids races for a bit, one of my favorite parts of race days. So much determination ... but I digress.
First time at this race and did not inspect course. Pretty quick warm up and it was time to go. VERY crowded 15 foot wide start line and first 50m. Ran with hands tucked in to avoid contact, and some guy bumps me on my left shoulder, and I go shoulder to shoulder with someone else and they fall. I was slowing to stop and I saw them get up. I considered going back through the traffic to check but that would have caused more chaos. After the race I found the person to see if they were ok. Road rash but was able to continue quickly. I felt so bad.
At 200m hairpin turn, what? At 400m, 400m hill, what? Sharp turn, ahhh, downhill, 6 people ahead of me but several I knew were going to go past soon. Must have been 1km gentle decline, sharp turn ... small climb ... 300 m flat and streight to finish lap one.
Passed by a couple of guys on the second long climb. But caught one guy again at the top. Started the decline, he passed me, I passed him, he passed me, five times in total, before I thought he dropped off. 300m to the finish, he catches me and we ran side by side for 100m ... I was waiting for him to kick, I thought he was waiting for me, etc ... i kicked strong at 200m and he had nothing left ... ran hard to the line and crossed at 19:55, 10/270+ (results not posted yet), first time under 20 min, and 55 second pb, on a tough course. I am elated. The end.

Nicely done! Any plans for a half anytime soon? Your half PB looks dated.

lol ya that does look out of place with my 5,16 and 42. Its 2 years old. I've been under 1:35 several times in marathon training. 10 k is also 2 years old and should fall when I get around to one. Thanks guys.
