Santa Shuffle 2012 Newbie kicks ass

Postby newbie » Mon Dec 03, 2012 9:47 am

I wasn't going to write a race report for this one since it is a fun run and not timed but when I looked at my Garmin at the end I knew I had to. It was really cold on Saturday morning and I wasn't sure how that was going affect me since I had some issues the prevous Sunday 10k becasue of the cold and my shins. I met up with Alex and we decided to run together. I told him I had no expectations for this since it was a fun run and I just wanted to finish and not freeze. We started out pretty fast but it was hard becasue we were dodging people that were walking. We got to the first walk break and I was feeling good but we decided to take it anyway. I started to have to some leg pain at the 3k mark and we deided to take our second walk break and then sprint it home. When I crossed the finish line I looked at my Garmin and I couldn't believe that not only had I broke 30 mins i did it by 4 mins and finished 26:46. I know it's unofficial but I can gurantee that's the fastest 5k I have ever run. Not bad for not even trying!!!!
Next up:

Feb 2015 - Castaway Key 5k
March 2015 - St. Patrick's Day 10k
May 2015 - ORW 1/2 Marathon

Congratulations!
When your legs get tired, run with your heart.

Overcome the notion that you must be regular. It robs you of your chance to be extraordinary.

Keep on rolling, just a mile to go. Keep on rolling my old buddy, you're moving much too slow.

Well done! Kinda tells you something about how seriously we take this stuff...if we just chill and enjoy running, the results will come! Nice work!
