talk about a puss!
http://photos.mysportsshooter.com/eventgallery/17741/72/

As for the last few years my goal has been to dip below 40min on this course. This year I was feeling pretty good, the weather was good, not muddy, icy, snowy or slushy like usual, a bit of wind but not bad, as good as you can expect really. I took off fast but comfortable, not pushing too hard down the hill, I was in 6th position at the mile, 5:21 for the first mile. Almost to 3k and just before we turned into the rolling hills I past one guy that took off too quick for himself. At this point the guys in front were long gone and I was on my own except for one guy behind me, that eventually caught up. We ran together for a while and I tried to keep pushing hard. As we went up the 'big hill' I started to fall behind, as we crested I felt I didn't recover fast enough and started to lose my edge for a while. At this point I was all alone for the rest of the race, behind me I couldn't see anyone, ahead only this one guy so I used him as motivation. You can totally see by the results how spread out the top 7 guys were.

Fast forward to the finish, 41:03 that is my second fastest time for this race so not so bad really, and 6th overall, 1st in my age group.
I'd like to think that if there were a few more guys about my speed there I could of had a good chance for a PB if not a sub 40. Well now I still have this goal to work towards.

The 10k split was exactly the same split as my fastest time (40:43). Which I got sprinting to chase down another guy. I had no one to sprint hard for this year.

5:20 first mile, 38:30 through 10k

splits
3:21
3:25
3:55
3:53
3:51
4:29
4:10
3:58
3:50
3:40
3:21 pace for last 800m

Well done Robbie! It's a shame we didn't get to chat....you picked up 1st in your age group...even better! I threw in a 5th in the same age group ....long way to go to catch you though! My pal Matt from the Nomads was behind you in 7th...I agree with you, it would have been lonely up there. The upside is that the race is done quickly so the loneliness is over quickly.

I'll aim for sub-45 next year if you work on sub-40...deal?

Surrounded by guys almost half my age. Sounds like a plan, like Doonst says if you can run your age you are doing good ;-)

Great race Robbie and a neat AG win. It was good chatting with you at the start and glimpsing a view of you zipping around the turn onto the road at the start. Congratulations!
