Burlington Canada Day 5K

Postby 5km » Thu Jul 03, 2014 2:04 pm

Just a brief report this year: I’m a bit disappointed with my time this year but the heat and humidity really got to me during the second half. I was more or less on schedule for the first half with a watch time of 11:54 at the turn, in spite of the strong headwind. However, the wheels fell off during the second half, due to the aforementioned heat and humidity, as my pace slowed and my HR soared. It was a struggle to finish and a very kind, much younger, guy slowed down and offered to “run it in” with me. Runners are great folks!

The race results aren’t posted yet but my watch time was 24:56. Gun time will be slower. It was good enough for a SM65-69 AG win and it was all I had on the day.

The best part of the day was meeting and chatting with Ken B and Mrs. Tortoise after the race.

Congratulations on a good race under difficult conditions. Never too shabby when you win your age group. Also, thanks again, for the impetus I needed for the last 500 metres which helped me to a great time. We also really enjoyed spending time chatting with you after the race. I hope to see you at many events in the future.
