I ran in the Burlington Frosty 5K this past weekend. It was a well-organized fun event with over 700 participants. The weather was sunny but surprisingly cold. I hadn’t run this race since 2009 and the weather had been sort of nasty the last couple of years. So I waited until last week to enter hoping the weather would be good. The forecast was for warm weather, i.e. above freezing, and no snow. So I entered. Then the temperature took a nose dive. All in all race conditions were great, however, except for the wait at the start which was a bit uncomfortable.
I consider my race a success. I achieved my A goal of going sub-28 minutes. The effort, while hard, was somewhat less painful than I had anticipated. The first four kilometres were fine. Only the last kilometre was really hard. Such is the 5K!
My gun time was 27:13, with a chip time of 27:09. It was good enough for a second place in my 70-74 AG. First place went to a surprisingly fast man, finishing in 24:50. Such is racing. You never know who’s going to show up.
Thanks for reading.

Re: Frosty 5K - Burlington
Good job on your Frosty 5k! I was doing the chilly half which saw both groups take off at the same time, and considering I was still dealing with glute / IT band issues...managed to pull a 1hr 38 mins.
Damn it was cold though with the windchill and all that
