I have no suggestions.
BUT...I'm wondering...what kind of juicer did you get...and the cost.
I've been thinking about getting one.

Some of these sound tasty

http://www.harvestessentials.com/juicsaucsoup.html

A friend of mine says this is really good too. Maybe not for juicers but...

iskiate (chia fresca)

It does look weird, but tastes great!

To make 1 glass:
8 oz of water
2 - 2.5 teaspoons of Chia Seeds
1 lime to squeeze
2 teaspoons of sugar (I use raw honey)
Mix water, sugar/honey, and juice from the lime until dissolved. Add Chia Seeds and shake or stir. Serve it chilled.
The chia seeds turn kind of jelly/slimey, but you really don't notice it too much unless you're trying to chew the seeds. The drink is very refreshing and clean tasting. It also goes down easy and quick.

I wonder why a juicer?

I recently bought a Magic Bullet which I think is one of those "as seen on TV" type things. It's about $40.

It's not a juicer but the wife and I blend up strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, pineapple, and/or mango each morning for a smoothie breakfast.

We add some orange juice/water to it (fresh squeezed orange juice from the local store).

Years ago we, thankfully, received a lightly used juicer from a friend. I think we used it once and then donated it to the local SOS.

The recipes above aren't really for juicers- in fact one of the benefits of chia seeds is the fibre. You lose all the fibre with juicing.

I don't have a magic bullet- just a good old blender. :)

I love my juicer. Carrots, beets and ginger are my favourites, but I experiment with just about anything. The day I tried scotch bonnet peppers will not be spoken of.

Using a juicer

Postby VeloCarrie » Sat Oct 29, 2011 4:56 am

I go through juicer phases, about once or twice a year, usually in spring & summer. A lot of fruits I like the taste of but hate the texture get juiced (mangos being a great example). I usually only juice fruits because I love most vegetables whole.

My blender is so old it only has two speeds: low and high! Though "juicing" and "blending" are two different things. ;)

You could also try going to a juice place and checking out their menu for ideas. We have one in the food court that has about 25 different blends of juices. Most of them have carrot, apple or orange as the base juice.

I am with you on the vegetables. I just can't love them juiced.

Helpful hint: the organic carrots taste outstanding juiced. Non-organic, not so much.

I could say far more than is good for me about juicing (since I was loyal to it for several years) so I'll now shut up.

Mine's an Oster and it was also my grandmother's! Those old machines certainly last a long time!

If it's smoothies and shakes you like, then you should have bought a more expensive blender (like a $500 VitaMix!). Juicers just make juice. If you keep going through blenders then you need something more heavy duty to handle the frequency of use and volume of ingredients.

yes, I do realize that, hard to explain....I'll maybe work up to the Vita..lol I mostly meant that b/c I like the smoothies etc so much, I'll like making the juices. I really suck at getting my post across with typing and not using my hands and facial expression!

We also go through phases with our juicer throughout the year. Currently in a juicing phase. Love to put through carrots and beets then add an apple or pear or pineapple (whatever we have really) then I take the juice and put in blender where I add banana or mango so we get the fibre too. Seems time consuming and lots of dishes but, it is fun and makes us feel healthy. (I put spinach in there too but, don't tell!)
