Veggie burgers (black beans and oats- vegan)

Postby Jwolf » Mon Jan 30, 2012 11:23 pm

Had these tonight and they were a huge hit with the whole family, including my carnivorous son.

I skipped the chili powder and substituted tumeric because my daughter is anti-hot-spicy foods. I also skipped the almonds because I didn't realize we were out. And... I didn't process the oats-- just used quick cooking oats whole.

Strange! Snack Girl shared a similar recipe today! I want to try those sometime soon.

Those would be good if you already had hummus to use up, but since I make my own hummus it would be like making two things. :) They do sound yummy though.

The flax-seed-paste does a good job holding the burgers together. And they have really good flavor over all.

Love her site! Never had a recipe fail that I have tested from there.

That does look yummy! I wonder if they would freeze well? I always quick defrost recipes (in oven- no microwave in our house).

I'm going to make these burgers next week. I just don't understand this ingredient:

Flax eggs: 2.5 tbsp ground flax + 1/2 cup warm water, mixed in bowl

How is that an egg? Or they just call it that way and it has nothing to do with eggs? It's confusing me... lol

That is her egg substitute since she is vegan.

I see... so I guess we could use an actual egg instead of this mix.
