Supplementation May Help with Non-Anemic Iron Deficiency
Non-anemic iron deficiency can manifest as low ferritin levels (ferritin is the iron storage protein), which is what I often have (normal hemoglobin). Paula Findlay had this problem when she was training for the 2012 Olympics.
This is not a real study, but a research review-- It has been known for a while that low ferritin can have an affect on athletic performance, even when hemoglobin levels are high. But still there are people (like one of my doctors) who will insist that performance shouldn't suffer as long as hemoglobin levels are normal. I should send my doctor this link.
