what ever you want cup cake

I thought I was cupcake. Or am I cheese bread?

This thread took longer to devolve than usual.

You, darling, are cinnamon bun! :)

Like: cinnamon bun

(I know IC has been called cup cake but I know for sure La makes cup cakes)

I called her cheese bread for a while, but cinnamon bun sounds better (and more like her).

Considering that's what I made for Habs while she was here (hovering over me, by the way). Makes sense.

No hovering! Standing close and talking and drinking coffee.

So, technically, we haven't gone too far off topic as we are discussing bread products.

When I think of Habs and bread, I think "white buns" because she always talked about how difficult they were to resist. But that's probably not an appropriate nickname....

I made another perfect loaf of bread today. The only loaf I've made that was ugly was the one where I put everything in at 5 am and set the timer for the loaf to be ready as I got home from work. That loaf was ugly on the outside and didn't rise quite as much.

Home made bread is more "crummy" than store bought. I think it doesn't have artificial elasticizers. So I've thawed a store bought loaf to make sandwiches for my trip tomorrow. I don't want crumbs all over the car.

You can't hijack your own thread. it's your thread, you can talk about anything in it.

I bet you won't like store bought now.

Yes, the overnight artisan-style bread I have been making is baked in a dutch oven.

Speaking of kitchen gadgets. I would like a hand crank coffee grinder exactly like IronColl has. I have searched every possible store here in MH. Every store has the electronic kind, but no hand cranks.

It looks like Bed, Bath and Beyond carries them.

Alternately, the next time you go visit IC, get her to take you to Cafe Haven. I think that is where our MIL picked them up (yes, I have one, too! :) )

This evening, it took 17 min to get the Champion out of the garage, put it together, dump 2 cans of peanuts in it, take it apart, scrape it out, wash all the parts, put everything back in the box and put it back in the garage. Not bad to obtain 2 weeks worth of peanut butter (more since I still have some from the last batch).

i made some coconut cream, coconut oil and coconut flour using the juicer tonight. also drank the water out of the coconut for a shot of electrolytes!

on the subject of kitchen gadgets, i just "bought" a crepe maker from the shopping channel. they're having some weird sale where you get $50 to spend with no minimum purchase. most of the good stuff under $50 was sold out, so it came down to the crepe maker, which has RAVE reviews on the site and elsewhere, or a casserole-shaped crockpot. i don't really make casseroles and already have a slow cooker, so i went with the crepe maker. even though i've had crepes about three times in my life. i had a tasty sausage, cheese and tomato one in paris, so i could always try my hand at that.

in case anyone is interested in a free $50, here's the link.

my free crepe maker finally arrived. now i just need to find a use for it.... :shifty:

i was looking at dutch ovens today. does round versus oval make a difference? one dish i'd like to make in it is curried goat, where the shape shouldn't matter. but are there other uses where it would?

Oval is good for roasts (chicken, beef, pork) because of their shape, and best used in the oven. Round is better if you want to start cooking on the stove, then finish it off in the oven (will heat more evenly than oval, for obvious reasons).
