Ok, what brand of AAAs do you use in you garmin? I have gone through one set and three quarters roughly of a second set for the month of July. (195K)
I am using regular Energizers. Not Max or Super or Ultra etc...
Next time you fire in a fresh set into your garmin make a little note of which type of battery and how long they lasted. Maybe we can determine the best bang for the buck!

I have a 301 so buying batteries aren't required, however for all my other electronics I use Duracell PROCELL, and in everything I use them for, they last about 3 times as long. I would be interested to see how long they last in the garmins compared to other choices.

I admit, that is a good point in the run long. I am not dening that. But man, thats a lot of batteries.
Perhaps rechargeables

You can always get the energizer lithium rechargables-- more expensive, but they last longer with each charge than regular alkaline batteries (and way longer than NiCd). And no environmental issues, there. I use them for my mp3 player, and they're great.
