trail and ultra blogs and sites

Postby UltraQueenga » Thu Sep 02, 2010 10:01 am

I remember people posting links to blogs and sites that have ultrarunning and trail running info, but I figured I'd start this thread and maybe the admins could make this a sticky. We need a thread where we can post links to ultra/trail running sites and keep it somewhere accessible.
Please keep adding to the list.

There's a few major ultra sites I like:
Stan Jensen's Run100s
UltraRunning Magazine (they've got a handy calendar)
RealEndurance.com (for their latest results, race reports, links to blogs and their searchable database!)
UltraMarathonRunning.com

Some blogs I occasionally read:
Dirt Diva - Catra Corbett's blog and race reports
Jamie Donaldson's blog
Gary Robbins' blog
Anton Krupicka's blog

Random articles and posts:
Running and Stuff - funny Brit dude who also posts a list of advice for surviving ultras
Funniest Badwater report ever (2010) - illustrated and just plain hilarious

Your first ultra
Extreme Ultrarunning (a catch all for ultra and trail info from all over)
Back of the Pack Ultras (from an ultrawalk page, but a lot of useful information)
ultra training programmes
Trail Runner magazine(links to older articles)
ultrarunr (a very useful site to all things trail and ultra, not updated in awhile, but invaluable)
Trail Running Soul
Trail Runner Canada

Well.... it's there, just a little outdated.

Interesting video blog and some handy times to boot.

For all your www.enduranceplanet.com junkies out there, its confirmed that Kevin Patrick and Barry Siff are no longer going to appear on the show. Although I can't comment on the quality of the show under the new ownership and new interviewers, the site contains a huge archive of podcast interviews reaching back over several years.

I've been meaning to post this. I came across Charlie Engle's blog last week when I was reading his race report from 2010 Beast of Burden 100. I had heard that he got charged with some white collar crime or something, but never bothered to follow it. I remember him from Badwater a few years ago and his Running Sahara project. Anyway, the guy is now embarking on a most interesting and tough 20-month long adventure...

Wow that is some bizarre. I remember meeting him at the Niagara Ultra in 2008, where he did the marathon. dgrant got quite an impression of him:
Another little highlight was meeting Chuck Engle at the Niagara event. (For those who may not know, Chuck Engle is the guy who won 35 marathons in 2006/2007. That's not a typo, he won 35 marathons.) I introduced myself to him after his second place marathon finish (he clearly slowed to let the winner take the cake, telling me afterward he just doesn't see the honour in outkicking somebody in the final seconds of a tiny marathon). Pretty neat stuff for me, especially since hours later he remembered my name.

I think these are two different people: Charlie Engle the ultrarunner and Chuck Engle the multiple marathoner.

While this blog entry I found in poor taste, it was interesting to see Charlie Engle actually came on and commented.
