Frying IPODS

So I keep on frying ipods, cell phones and other electronic devices. I have bought otter boxes to protect them and I fry those as well.
I keep my ipod in my bra and seems to be just too damp in there.

Otterbox has stoped making hard cases for ipods soo I am wondering what other people do. Oh and the ziplocked bag works for a week before I fry the ipod.

I used to fry my cells and that by carrying them in my pocket...
Now I use either an armband or a drop in cell phone waistband holster (hope that made sense) for
my iPhone. Easy access for me and no frying. I have cordless earbuds for it so no problems with wires.

Water damage will definitely do it, so the bra is not a great option.

I keep my iPod or iPhone on my belt pack when I'm doing long distances. If I'm worried about rain I put it in a plastic bag. I can't risk the iPhone getting damaged by water, so the plastic bag does the trick. That should work, so the fact that it didn't for you means maybe it was leaking-- perhaps around the headphone jack? If I'm doing a short run I can carry my mp3 player or iPod in a pocket or in my glove. The mp3 player is tiny enough that I can just hold it lightly in my hand with the headphone jack threaded under my Garmin strap.

It gets pretty rainy here, and I've never had any problems.

I'd suggest one of three things:

1. Start working out so your arms are stronger
2. Accept that you will fry iPods when running with them in your bra
3. Get a new nano next time you fry the old one - it's smaller and clips onto your clothes (i.e. doesn't have to go in your bra)

I have the new Nano - clipped it to my shorts on a TM run. I sweat a lot and I managed to fry the screen. Luckily it did not trip the moisture sensor, so Apple replaced it under warrantee.

Anywhere that there is a lot of sweat, you run the chance of frying your iPod. You think that Apple would address this, since they promote the heck out of using their products for running (Nike + system)

I wondered about that with the new nano. I think I would be worried about it if I clipped it to my clothing.

My old 1st generation nano still keeps working... if it ever gets fried I think I might replace it with a shuffle that doesn't have a screen. I also have an iPhone so that I can use when I actually want to control what I'm listening to better.

Annelizabeth- the bra seems like the worst possible location for an electronic device. The new small ones are so light that your arms must be strong enough.

I didn't even realize they HAD moisture sensors. Maybe I've gotten lucky with my shuffle, since I've gotten caught in some pretty nasty rain storms while running. I got mine for $35 as a refurb, when they intro'd the one with the controls in the headphones I went for the one they were discontinuing (which is the same size as your nano), at the time they had a ton of refurbs on the apple web site. I also have a gen 2 nano, but that needs the armband or a pocket.

Yup, for the new Nano it is in the headphone jack.

When I was getting mine replaced, I say someone with an iPhone/iPod Touch getting told that he was basically out of luck since the moisture sensor had changed colour on his (they use a little flashlight to check).

I also use the Shuffle and clip it to my shorts. If your ipod is to heavy to use an armband, I can't imagine wanting to carry it around in my bra! Does anyone else have problems with burning their skin when clipping the shuffle or nano to their shorts in hot weather? I've had to start tucking in my shirt on one side so that the shuffle isn't sitting against my skin on the inside of my shorts.

I fried a shuffle and 2 new nano's, all when clipped to my shorts under my shirt. I am a heavey sweater and The Apple store told me they all fried because of moisture problems. I have since swithced to an armband and so far, no further problems.

Why do you clip it under your shirt? Because it's on the waistband?

Has anyone had better luck clipping it on the outside of their shirt somewhere? I have seen a lot of people using the shuffle this way.

I'm asking because I've been eying the new nano for some time now, but won't get it if there are these problems. But it sounds like the shuffle also has this issue?

I actually usually put it in a pocket of a coat... I don't clip it to the bottom of a shirt as it has fallen off that way. I do the waistband, but maybe I won't anymore.

I hardly ever wear a jacket while running, and the pockets of my shorts or pants would surely put the iPod in a sweatzone.

My Sugoi running jacket has a cute little iPod pocket on top of the left sleeve with a small hole for the ear-buds to feed through the sleeve inside the jacket. BUT...it's way too hot for any temperatures above 2 degrees....

Anyone in Ottawa remember that torrential downpour, combined with a windstorm that knocked out power to a bunch of Ottawa a month ago? I was running in that, with my shuffle on my shorts (which may say as much about me as the ipod). My kids have those touch screen nanos, I can imagine those being less hardy than the shuffle, plus the shuffle costs so much less.
