Best song to finish a race to

Postby erinmcd » Fri Sep 30, 2011 9:04 pm

So, sitting home on a Friday night folding laundry and listening to the Hip (I know, I live a wild & crazy life) and the song "New Orleans is Sinking" came on, and I thought to myself "If I heard that as I was coming down the home stretch of a race, that would give me the kick I needed." Got me wondering what other songs would be good for a home stretch kick. Maybe Fire Woman by The Cult, Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting by Elton John, You shook me all night long by AC/DC, No way back by Foo Fighters.
Any other thoughts?

When I first started running I had a couple of songs on my player that would get my tempo right up there as I figured out after I downloaded my garmin info..

The Kinks - You Really Got Me
The Commodores - She's a Brick House

A song that is stuck in my head after spin class last weekend

OLP - All You Did Was Save My Life
KEEP GOING, NEVER GIVE UP: Spencer D

Hey, be careful around me, apparently I'm a chronically offended kind of person... ;)

Thunderstruck - I get goosebumps every time I hear it, and think of approaching the finish line of a race while it is playing. I have no idea why, but it is THE song for me.

The 2nd 1/2 of Freebird would be great- I can imagine coming around a corner and hearing that to bring me down the home stretch. The 1st half of the song not so much though.

Best song to finish a race to

I have a great song on my iPod that I want to hear at the end of my race- not the very end but as a pick-me-up when I know I'll need it.

It's "Sometime Around Midnight" by Airborne Toxic Event. It starts slow but then builds in intensity, not with a changing melody but just with more drums, instrumental, and more emotionally charged vocals. I played it at the tough party of my tempo run and near the end of my long run.

I'm sure I'll think of some others...

my current favourite energy song:

It mostly makes me want to dance but is good for a butt-kick in a run too!

OK, so I had a listen and then I had a image of you dancing to the beat, down the final stretch. I think I would pay to see that for real.

"Killing in the Name of" by Rage Against The Machine. HANDS DOWN. I finished the Detroit Marathon to this song in '05, right down to the second, crossing the line just at the ending. It rocked.

They are great at the beginning as well, or whenever I need a pick me up.

More Than A Feeling - Boston

I remember as I was finishing a long run on my birthday, this song came on in the final KM. I was exhausted and sore (at the time it was my longest. run. ever.) and that song picked me right up.

Another song I'd love to finish to: Shoot To Thrill - AC/DC.

This is mine, makes me really kick into gear! Though I don't race or train with music anymore...I might have to start again....once I buy a new iPod.

Woke up this morning to Frank Sinatra's "I did it my way," and thought, at least for me, it would be a great race theme song.
