Indoor event this weekend at York U
Its anywhere from 2K to 6 hours. There are still a few spots left for this weekend’s event. It’s a fundraiser with a noble cause, it would be nice to see it sell out.

Pulled the trigger for the 30K. Good prep for Florida marathon next month.
Thanks for the reminder Ron. I had this on my to-do list, but forgot about it

yup! under "race day details":
Spectators are welcome and seating is available in an upstairs gallery. However, we ask that runners do not allow friends, etc. to run with them during the marathon due to space limitations.

Re: Indoor event this weekend at York U
I'm not attending but there is one runner from my group in Chatham.
Look for Jenni, short dark hair, about 5' 6". Age, not saying but it rhymes with niffty.
She is on her own trying first ultra.
Introduce yourself, and tell her Dave is just trying to make sure she has lots of friends to run with

Silly question - but will this seem extremely warm? Some of my worst distance races have been in similar temps but have involved unexpected sunshine in cool weather. I always attibuted performance impact to the sun not the temperature, hope that is right...
Looking forward to this as well...

+1 on extremely warm
If your racing a short one the “heat” could come into play. I would prefer 10-12C but 18C is OK, I just factor it into my race plan.

Come on Anne , I know you want too.
Sorry , I am out of line suggesting that you do a race that perhaps you didn’t really want to do. Oh the insight we have into reading Blogs

This works out OK for me. I am preparing for a warm weather marathon in February where it could fall anywhere from 10 to 20 degrees. After I blew up in my hot debut marathon a few years back, I read that marathon times slow 3% for every 4.5 degrees over 10 degrees. If I run 5% off goal pace Saturday due to temperature it will give me a good idea how much temperature-related fade I need to account for in February.
Thanks Ron.

Damn it I will be getting on the bus!
I am too much a sucker for peer pressure.
You can thank your neighbour for this as I picked up some shifts thus it is paid for.
Might not be pretty as the longest I have done since Las vegas half and that was slllooowww will be around 13-14k tonight.

The 5K would be fun, but I still have to get my "wheels" back. Anything longer than that on a banked track seems like a recipe for IT band disaster to me... but have fun! Good luck!

My understanding is that 30K and up is on a flat track.

That's good- someone was thinking!
How would one count laps for a half marathon or 30K?

There are timing chips for official count. But for in-race knowledge for the runner, I don't know. I plan to hit my watch every lap to get splits as I need them and track distance traveled but I see myself forgetting to keep up at some point...

Re: Indoor event this weekend at York U
I say you run with a magic marker, and make a tally mark on your arm for each lap, like you're counting the days in jail.
Seriously though, I guess taking it 1km at a time would mean you're only counting 5 laps at once (it's a 200m track, right?). The few times I've run significant distance on a track, I used a bit of a mantra for the first part of each lap, till I felt like it was drilled in- "mile 1, #1, mile 1, #1, etc". That was only for 5 miles or so though. I think it would be tough to maintain focus once you got past 20K or so (and damn boring up to that point, haha).

232.49m laps. Perhaps because it is in an outside lane.
If you do hit your lap button each lap, at least you get extremely frequent splits - every 70-90 seconds.
I would imagine I'll see the first 2-3 splits then only measure a lap time every 15 minutes or so. A clock will tell me how how much of the race is complete. Not being precise means I can socialize and have fun instead of the usual pace OCD.

Will your watch record that many splits?
Good plan re: the fun social run.
