STWM roll call?

Postby ratherawkward » Wed Sep 19, 2012 1:17 pm

Starting to realize that Scotia is not that far off... only a little over three weeks left. Anyone else going? I'm in for the half, after having done the 5k last year. I heard their new baggage system went fairly smoothly at the Yonge St 10k, so hopefully not a repeat of last year's bag check fiasco.

I love this race and have a major emotional attachment to it, but for various reasons I'm not in race mode right now. Distance wise I'm good, but I am not feeling very confident about my speed, and I really don't want to put pressure on myself. I'll get back there, but I'm not there right now. I was torn, but then I remembered I signed my best friend up for the half for her birthday (her pb is within 10 seconds of mine), and her training has been quite minimal up till now (oops). So I'm going to run it with her as fast or slow as we feel like running. No pressure- if one of us isn't feeling it, we just have fun. If we're both feeling good, we may do ok.

Par for the course for me..fighting a wicked head cold all week and am having to skip the last three runs in the program. Three months of pretty damn good training (by my standards) and bam.. sigh. Still, looking forward to it and even if I have a mediocre day I think it is pretty much a guaranteed PB.
Very weird thing when I looked up my bib# though (8270). Aren't they assigned randomly or in order of sign-up ? I have a fairly unusual last name and there are only three other runners running with it. And, one of them is 8269 !! Never met her and certainly not a part of my little family group. One of life's little curiosities.

Those three runs won't really matter in the grand scheme of things. Being as close to 100% healthy on race day WILL make a difference! Heal up, get lots of rest and liquids.

The last runs are merely a reminder, a tune up and warm up.

Looking at the list, it seems they're assigned alphabetically within a block for the distance you're running, if that makes sense. I'm getting accustomed to high bib #'s since my surname starts with a Z.

He's incredible. Great pic! Fauja Singh did the 5K in around 43 minutes at 101 years old....awesomeness.
