Coach talked some strategy with me prior to this one, he knows more than he can tell me:
I kept at a pace that would keep my 2009 PB (21:28 - 4:18/K) within sight though sub-22:00 seemed more realistic. I have never focused on the 5K but have always failed at getting near this mark, though now I had 3 weeks of intervals thus far in my marathon training and could perhaps keep it in sight.
As it tuned out, I was able to pass throughout the race and visit the pain bank late. I knew I was tight to a PB as my mile splits on the course (too dark to regularly see pace on watch) were approx. 7:00, 7:00, 6:45. After the race I saw I had run:
4:21
4:20
4:23
4:17
4:05
21:26, PB by 0:02.
It was dark so I had no idea of placement. I was pleasantly surprised to see a result of 40/918 overall and then a poted result of 2nd in my age group. This turned out to be 3/47 M40-44, but the AG winner had been bumped to the overall prizes. I won my first ever running trophy:
Very pleasantly surprised with this one. So I had some beer last night afterwards.

Nicely done!
Keep on rolling, just a mile to go. Keep on rolling my old buddy, you're moving much too slow.
