Entry Limits
To better serve participants, the Bay Race has set the following limits for 2013:

•30k Road Race — 8,500 participants (please note one start for the 30k only — 9:30am — 4.5 hour time limit)
•5k — 2,300 participants
•3-person Relay teams — 250 teams
•2-person Relay teams — 250 teams

And, new this year ... I guess they read our comments from this year with regards to a Corral System ... :shifty:

Front of the Pack Start Corrals

The Front of the Pack Start Corrals A, B, and C, are seeded placement of a limited number of fast participants based on their recent Bay Race or equivalent times.

Qualifying times for Seeded Start Corrals: (Hours, Minutes)

Start Corral Bay Race Times Half-Marathon Times Marathon Times
Corral A < 2:15 < 1:35 < 3:00
Corral B 2:15–2:30 1:35–1:45 3:01–3:30
Corral C 2:31–2:45 1:46–1:55 3:31–3:50
Open—Over 2:45 N/A N/A N/A

How to Qualify for these secure Start Corrals:
Assignment is based on a submitted qualifying time run in a recent Bay Race, Half Marathon or Marathon. These are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Assignment to these Corrals is not guaranteed and must be confirmed by the Bay Race Staff.

Qualifying times must be submitted in the form of a link to a race result or race result page from a previous Bay Race, half marathon or marathon run no earlier than January 2010. Please copy and paste the link of your previous result in an email to graydon@bayrace.com for review.

If you have any questions regarding our new start corral system, please contact gary@bayrace.com or contact@bayrace.com.

Wow - they're going all out with the corrals! Even just having suggested corrals based on goal time like at Ottawa Race Weekend would have been a helpful start (and much less work).

I gotta fight
for my right
to corral B
next up:

This broken wing will fly again
One fine day
This blackbird's mute gonna sing again
One fine day

So all you sinners come out
And all you drunkards crawl out
Come into the light of one fine day

Just noticing this now.... the corrals are definitely interesting and also questionably divvied up. a 2:15 ATB does not a sub 3 full make. I know ;)

From my own exp = 2:11 = 3:09 later that year, 2:04 = 3:02 (that one is more potential). Not that I was there, but I still think the sub 2 ppl deserve to be at the front.

I'm glad to see that corrals are being introduced, but ironically I may miss this race in 2013. One of my nieces is getting married the day before - in British Columbia. At this point I don't know whether I'll be at the wedding or not. Boston is three weeks later and I'm planning to be there, so whether the budget and (more of an issue) my work schedule can accommodate two trips in a short time is an open question. I love this race and hate to think of not running it, but...I love my family too... :)

I think the corrals are a great idea. So far I'm ok for Corral C based on my 1/2 time and hoping to be there based on my full time as well.

I wonder how well they will manage the corrals on race day though. It's one thing to have to submit your time and qualify for a corral but if they don't manage it then it's all for not!

I am just going to squeak into coral C!! (half: 1:54:40.2)

When I first quickly looked at the corals I though I was going to be in the open one, but I'm much happier now

Registered for my 8th ATB and requested Corral A, based on my 1/2 Marathon Qualifying Time from last year's 9 Run Run :P .... Also, reserved a room at the host hotel, The Sheraton Hamilton ... race rate is $135.00 /night plus taxes ... can always cancel, if and when the annual Ottawa-ATB Bus/Hotel comes online ... as that tends to sell out pretty quickly the past couple of years .... :?

eta: That was quick, just received confirmation from the RD that my request for Corral A was accepted ...

The bus trip opened up in Nov last year, so still a few months wait!

And, the first bus, Kanata Bus sold out before Ross even posted the link on trirudy newsletter, if I recall .. with the second bus selling out before end of December, as well ...

It does say "secure start corrals," so I expect there will be some type of control over it.

You are right! No website... weird. Anyway, we decided to pass on ATB this year.... sort of makes me sad but relieved about not doing all these long runs in the winter...

sorry this corral system really drives me bananas.

Image

Thats my crop of their race times and Mcmillan's equivalent paces using a sub 3 marathon. Sorry but that was a lot of work and a 2:15 is just not the same. I understand the need for corrals but it just seems so odd that they killed the one corral they already had.

I registered today for my 7th time in a row ATB. My intention is to break my PB for this race (that is 2 hours 39 minutes and 51.9 seconds for the 30 Km) ......

It does seem odd as the half marathon time equates to a 3:20 ish marathon. Don't think it means that first corral will be chock a block full of heathen slow people. They probably need to adjust the marathon time rather than others to get it right. If you feel it does a diservice to your sub 3 (kudos by the way) then just submit a half marathon time under 1:35, and feel better about it.
The longest journey begins with a single step.

Just sold my 30K bib this morning to one of toobusy's friends, though was able to join in on a 2-person relay this year, so all is good in ATB land for me ... :P

Anyone have an extra spot in their carpool going down to ATB ? Have someone looking still ... suggested to her to start looking in early January and gave me that look of terror  ... "... it's 3 months away ... too early to start worrying about transportation and hotel accomodations ...." and, guess what ... she just started looking this week apparently and is starting to stress out a bit ...   :naughty: :naughty: :naughty: should have listened to me ... :snooty: :snooty: :snooty:
