Every Mile is Magic!....Or Just Plain Goofy...
Every Mile is Magic!....Or Just Plain Goofy...
The short of it -- Kit pick up and expo : busy, yet efficient. Most of the goofy merchandise was gone. Corral change for my friend was quick and easy.
Half marathon : crazy busy, made it to our corral just in time. fun run. hot but manageable. finished in 2:34
Full marathon : still crazy busy. hot but glad to finish before it got too hot. finished in 5:22
I went with my friend Kate. She was running her first full. We arrived at the expo just after noon on Friday. Walked right in and grabbed our bibs. Stood in the massive line to get our shirts and check out the expo. The line was constantly moving, which was good. We spent maybe 20 mins in line. All but some hats and a couple mugs were left of the Goofy merchandise. The rest was half and FM stuff. Walked/shopped the expo for about an hour before heading to dinner, then pre race prep and relaxing in the room before lights out. 3 am comes early.
The half-- Up at 3, on the shuttle by 4 thinking we'd have plenty of time. We were wrong! We wasted no time going from our shuttle to corral D. Got there with hardly a minute to spare before the start of the wheelchair race. We said we'd leave earlier for Sunday's race! We were approaching the half as a fun run. Stopping to take photos and taking in the sights.
I (jokingly) made a comment on FB to Karen (gnu) that I'd see her in the masses thinking, what are the chances of finding someone I've never met in a crowd of almost 30, 000 people. Running along, I was coming up behind a woman in a Super Girl costume and was pretty sure it was her. It was! Introduced myself and briefly chatted before heading off, saying maybe I'll see you again (hahaha).
Kate and I both agreed that for Sunday's marathon that we were both going to wear tank tops. We felt over dressed with tshirts and the full will run later into the day. We crossed the finish line in 2:34 feeling pretty good and happy with the run. Spent the rest of the day Downtown Disney.
The full-- Up at 3am, on the shuttle by 3:40. Arriving in plenty of time. Not as panicked to get to our corral. Walking through the masses of people to our corral, I happened to look into the crowd and who did I see, none other than gnu, again!! (Thinking I should buy a lotto ticket, odds are....??). Run was going well. Started to get hot about halfway through. Stayed well hydrated. Ran into Karen again along the route! Kate and I were able to keep a good steady pace throughout the entire run, stopping for photos, washroom breaks and water top-ups. She was worried for a bit that we did the half too fast for having to do her first full the next day. She did a fantastic job! We felt like we were flying by people in the last 10k. Just about everyone seemed to be walking. We crossed the finish line in 5:22.
I did this race two years ago with my local running group. They are planning another group Goofy trip for 2014 race. Seriously considering it. I love this race- the massive crowds, I could do without but oh what a fun run!! If only it were a little cheaper.
Best group costume, the guys dressed as Alladin, Genie, Jafar and Abu.
Best spectator sign, "Is that Gu in your pocket or are you just happy to see me"
*waiting for the boat at the hotel (Port Orleans Riverside) to take us to Downtown, Kate and I were talking to a group of people from Ottawa, a husband and wife and (her?) parents. They ran the half. Never thought to ask if they were RMers. Sound familiar to anyone?
Enough of my ramblings.....Thanks for reading

Congrats on your race(s)!
The best part of the early start is the early finish! When I did the half in '09 it was great to be done the race and back to the hotel by 8:30AM!

Re: Every Mile is Magic!....Or Just Plain Goofy...
Thank you all!!
I would love to do this race year after year but CHA-CHING$$$$!!!!
Totally agree!! Run a HM, stretch, line up for shuttle, back to your hotel and showered by 10 am! Rest of the day is free.
Kate wanted to do a full before her 50th bday (later this year). She said she may only ever do one full. I told her if that was the case she should 'go big or go home!'. Opportunity arose and she was able to go to Disney.
I did see a few Superboy costumes. But the corral you started in and the time you finished, I highly doubt any of the guys I saw were you.
Hope to!! We'll see

It was great seeing you there all three times!
