Re: Vancouver Sun Run competitors stripped of their medals
Looking at the video, it is pretty clear, there is no way she could have run sub-42 at that pace. I guess with that many runners she could amble across the finish line and not look too conspicuous. Apparently she's been doing for years. Why? Surely her friends know she can't run at at 4:00/km clip for 10 kms???

Reminds me of an old Simpsons episode:
(Hell hath no fury like a runner jobbed out of an AG prize...)
Bart: Well Dad, here's my report card. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Homer: [incredulously] A-plus?!? You don't think much of me, do you boy?
Bart: [almost proudly] No sir!
Homer: You know a D turns into a B so easily. You just got greedy.

I often refer back to this quote, a classic.
I heard about this while listening to CBC Radio 1 while getting ready for work.
Shocking? Sure.
Surprised? Not really, it's a huge race and it can be easily done, especially on the Cambie Street Bridge. I'm sure a few others did it last Sunday too.

It actually happened before RM even existed. The fellow cheated in a marathon (Toronto, I think?) and got caught by the sleuthing skills of our own jgore, who notified the race directors. He was disqualified. Actually had nothing to do with RM, but later on people here were discussing the incident, and the fellow saw that he was being talked about. He started harassing me to remove the posts, remove his name from the site, remove it from google, etc, or he was going to take me to court.
So we made him a swear word (this way his name doesn't show up on the site!).

No doubt. I'm curious about how how these two were caught, seeing as I don't imagine there would be any (or enough) checkpoints en route. Was it just the guy shooting the video following up on something that looked fishy, was there some cyberstalking from another AG-er, did someone close to these two blow the whistle, or ... ? Also, was there an actual AG awards ceremony, and if so, did these two attend?

Re: Vancouver Sun Run competitors stripped of their medals
I wish I could find that thread (I can't even remember whether it was here or at the RR) where it was deduced not only that he cheated but how he did it, where he must have gotten on the subway and where he must have got off, and the somebody else found other questionable results from other races. It was like a 2004 version of the Reddit hunt for the Boston bombers.

Another possibility, 'Big Brother' was watching. There are a number of traffic cameras on the bridge. It would be interesting to see how they did it.

I'm curious too. There is an age-group ceremony, but I'm not sure if they attended.
Also, the top ten in each age group are published in the newspaper on Monday.
It is a crazy story- sounds like they didn't think they'd get caught and that it wouldn't matter. There are lots of places you could cut the course short, and I suspect many of the recreational runners and walkers do it-- not to cheat but just because they don't think they can run the whole 10K. In the past you could just wear the bib and no chip-- now the bib includes the chip.

she was just a **** disturber. But we happened to have a gear order going when it all went down, and she left the site (I would have banned her if she hadn't chosen to leave instead), and then she was demanding her shirt money back (I had the money but the shirts were still being made). I sent her the money but when it didn't come fast enough she started harassing and threatening me. I wouldn't want her wearing our gear anyway.
