Both seem awesome...YAU...anything that has Arctic in the name scares me. Its on your bucket list...it would lead me to my bucket.
Per g2g I'm a LOOOOOOONNNNGGG way off of that level of fitness or toughness, but something to aim for. Besides anything Zahab consults on can't be easy. It always looks so easy when you break it down the g2g is only 44k per day for 6 days...I've driven that far many times

Yeah, 100 miles in the arctic in winter is not quite on the training horizon as yet, give me a couple of years!

Re: Desert R.A.T.s
I am registered for YAU100 next year, so hopefully will be able to provide some guidance in the future.
G2G, distance wise is doable, the SELF-SUPPORTED aspect is a little unnerving... R.A.T.s sounds like it is a great time, and to end in Moab would be awesome.

Re: Desert R.A.T.s
How do I get from 10K to 148 miles? How about the Rim-to-Rim-to-Rim...it's only 41 miles and some Maniacs have already done it (and survived to write about it)? It's not a race but you can buy a T-shirt in the Grand Canyon gift shop afterwards.

Re: Desert R.A.T.s
So very true about g2g when I started reading the description and noted fully self supported, carry your own sleeping bag etc it was a Whoa!!! moment. That's hardcore. The R.A.T's even though way out of my league sounds like a more balanced approach to insanity than g2g.
@Nick funny after we got home Sunday night I have a fridge magnet with the Grand Canyon on it from a visit from a few years ago. I said to the Misses I'd love to try a R2R2R someday. I wonder what type of training you need to do? I can tell you the hike down to the River and back was tough enough. That said I was 35lbs heavier at the time, and not running very frequently. The GC is something everyone should see it was so much more amazing that any picture or description could show or explain.

I'd say some hill work would be a good idea! Both up & down.

Don't know how to train for R2R2R, but here is how to run it and set the record Rob Krar’s Grand Canyon R2R2R FKT Report

Nice...I found a video on youtube by Sage Canaday as well. Its a catch-22 as it's such a beautiful trail and area I'd want to stop and snap pictures and admire, but it would take 2+ days to cover it at that pace.
@OrleanRunner I was roaming Run100's and stumbled on this one to add to a bucket list...you basically run into Avenbury which is practically Stonehenge. http://www.racetothestones.com/

Couple of unique challenges in that race: wearing the white, flowing robes and then praying like hell you weren't the one chosen for the end of race sacrifice.
(Note that I changed the title of this topic as it has morphed beyond the original subject)
