November 2013 Training Goals

Postby HCcD » Fri Nov 01, 2013 10:28 am

Will probably take an easy recovery week in the first week of November, after Hamilton Marathon, then start my 8 week ramp up towards The Dopey Challenge in January ....

Such the case, barring any setbacks in Hamilton, I suspect that I should be around 250-300Km's for the month .... Will also attempt to return to regular strength and conditioning/resistance training, as well, to help reduce the risk of overuse issues from my increased running volume ...

November is still a "recovery/maintenance" month -- training for my next 100 miler starts the last week of November, so I will be just North of 200 km.

There will be some swimming, some weight workouts and some exercise classes -- keeping it fun and diverse until the real work begins!! :D
2014:
Mar - Around the Bay 30 km - Done
May - Sulphur Spring 100 miler - DNS
Sept - Army HM
Sept/Oct - 50 miler
Oct - Pace Bunny - Toronto Scotia Waterfront
Dec - Reggae Marathon in Jamaica

Run - Repeat. Frequency, length and intensity determined day by day. Well, that's the complex version of the plan.....

Consistency!

I'm aiming for 3 times a week of running. Just getting back into the swing of things.

This month always seems to be a low mileage month for me so my goal is to run a little more than Nov. '12.

I have a rough plan to run five days per week, gradually building up my mileage to around 35K/week. If things go well I might be able to inch that up a bit closer to 40K by the last week, but my real goal is just to train forward. Smart and happy. :)

Getting back in the saddle (figuratively and literally)..

Swim: 6 x minimum (Masters swim is 75 minutes)
Run: 8 x minimum (20 minutes minimum)
Ride/Spin: 6 x minimum (45 minutes minimum)

Let the winter build begin!

Try to shake off the lethargy and work in some cross training.
Run 4 times per week
Swim 1-2 times per week
Spin class once per week

All week I've been looking forward to writing this update! I had a great month, hitting 160K today. I successfully ran 5 days/week and in the last couple weeks I did get in just over 40k. I had some great runs with Rob and Mike and some other good ones on my own, and gradually I've entered the realm of the non-injured. Yay!

Ended up having to take a week off following a strained muscle (soleus) so mileage was lower than expected, and didn't get to swimming or exercise classes much at all.....

December will be REDEMPTION!

A bit short of my expected goal for November, due to taking extra rest days, as a result of tapering and recovery from the Hamilton Marathon, as well as the Mission Possible 1/2 Marathon over the first week and bit of the month ... Able to maintain consistent workouts on the latter half of the month, and progressing well with Dopey Challenge only 5 weeks and bit, away .... Also, maintaining a consistent resistance training, as well ... :)

Total Runs = 18 / 228K / 22:40:xx

Expect December to be around 250K or so, as taper will start the last week(end) of the month ... :P

Pretty consistent with running - 16 runs for 118 km
Did ok on the swimming but didn't get out for any spin classes (they are supposed to be having a class in my local community centre, I hope so as I can't quite motivate myself to make it to any of the classes across town)

Success! After coming off 2 Hanson training cycles, I've adapted to running 6 days/week. The goal really was to see if I would maintain the frequency or drop back down to 4 or 5 days/week. Mostly 10ish km runs during the week and 16-17k long runs on the weekend. Good off season mileage for me.
