I had some "lack of power" problems on my first indoor trainer session, absolutely cracked during a Sufferfest video while my heart rate and power output were nowhere near where they are on the road...
This seems to explain it to some degree - stay cool!

Added a second fan, removed my jersey before I even started, and generally focused on staying cool... voila, all fixed, next session was much better. Got through the video, hammered it to the end. Puddle of sweat much smaller.
Just thought I'd share as 'tis the season and if you're doing all that work in the basement you should get everything out of it you deserve!

I read a tip that said to put the fan off to the side so that it's blowing over more surface of your body than just your face. And open a window or door, if possible.

I understand how power would lag. But wouldn't your HR also go UP because of the lack of cooling?
I don't have a great place for my trainer- it's too hot in the basement where I have it. Since I don't train with power I don't know how it compares, and I'm likely not even training for any longer triathlons, but it would be nice to get a better workout.

It's about 21C in my basement gym... still too hot. I've considered opening the window up an hour before or something just to cool it down, or hammer myself with wind.
fingerboy - good idea. I'm just using those normal household stand-up fan things, they're not great.

Re: Staying cool on the indoor trainer
I used to ride my trainer on my 20th floor balcony... I'm sure the people in the other buildings thought I was a freak.
Now I just keep a window open and a fan on me.
