MEC Race Series

Postby Jwolf » Tue Dec 09, 2014 8:14 pm

Get five Vancouver area races for $60. :) What a deal! Thinking of this.

Thanks to Cheryl for pointing this out. Anyone else interested?

The race distances are either 10K or 5K. Some races also have half or full marathon distance, but those aren't included in the deal.

There are similar series in other areas, but here is the link to the Vancouver series:

Go to this site for searching for other areas:

I'm also somewhat interested in the marathon on September 27.

Super great deal
eta- the half distance for race 6 does not qualify for this offer, so there is only one half option for race 4
I'm in for the 10Ks for races 1, 2, 3, 6, and 7.

The MEC events are awesome- I love the small races.
On the books for 2017:
50th Birthday!!
Boston Marathon- April 17th what a day- DREAM COME TRUE
Run for Water 10K- May 28th
Scotia Half - June 25th
Trail River Run half marathon- Sept. 30- CANCELLED
MEC 10K Race 10- Nov. 5

Super deal! I wonder if they will do this in all their cities.

The regular price is already a good deal but I'm not sure if they do the package deal in other places?

The other cool thing about the series is while there isn't a race shirt or souvenir, you get a discount shopping day at MEC.

I think I will plan to do a couple of the races but not register for the package. There are other races I already want to do in some of those months and I can't do everything. :)

They are offering the same deal in Halifax. Five races for $60. In Halifax, one race has a 15km option while two offer the half marathon option.

For those thinking about the deal, I was in MEC (Halifax) today and they we advertising the package for $50 for five races instead of the $60 online. Check inside the store, you might score a better deal.

Hi all,

My name is Chris, I am the director of the MEC races in Ottawa. I thought I would check in, please feel free to ask me any questions that you might have about the races (anywhere in the country), I would be happy to help.

You can also email me on chris.chapman at mec.ca

Happy running!

I'll be passing through south British Columbia and plan to do the Saturday, July 29 MEC race in Squamish. Now that's early warning! But timing is perfect to throw in a race, I'm 99.9% likely to be waking up in Squamish that morning. I'll look for some Maniacs at the race.

Exactly. The timing of the races doesn't always work and I'm more fond of some courses than others.

I registered for the entire trail series (7 races) because it will help me get my fitness back and there aren't any races that I'm dying to do this year. The cost of the popular races is ridiculous and I don't want to buy into the hype so I figure the MEC races are good enough for me!

Great series, they have one near me in Barrie Ont as well (and Toronto and Burlington). The dates don't always work for me though for the series savings.

If the running is like the cycling, it is worth it.

The one cycling event I did was $45 compared to the $200 + for an official "Fondo". For that you get a bib, great company and a wonderful post ride meal. The event was relaxed and really about the cycling then anything else. And it was a great route.

This is a 2-year old post, but MEC has offered the series now for a few years and they keep getting better. They also have triathlons.

I still wouldn't register for a whole series, because the timing of some of the races wouldn't work for me. But even as single races they offer great value. The ones I have done have been great.
